Another reason they trade embiid is they maybe they like the potential fit of Okafor and Nerlens better than Embiid and Nerlens. Its hinkie anything is possible
I agree that those could be answers for my question... so then why would Flip (the Wolves) want to make that trade? We wouldn't.
We have a former teammate of his. If Wiggins is on board then I couldn't care less what he's done in Philly. The dude can play and they won't let him. You'd be pissed off too if you weren't allowed to play because of their tanking agenda.
If they legitimately thought he could play, then why wouldn't he be playing? Embiid as a rookie isn't going to bring them many, if any, extra wins this season. Playing their rookie doesn't go against the tanking agenda.
Also, while I dig Wiggins, I don't care about his player evaluation because frankly, he wouldn't be the most unbiased guy to ask. Of course he'd be on board for Embiid. That doesn't mean to give away a top-four pick for a guy with several major injury concerns and workout issues.
The difference between the number 3 pick and a d-league player is significant. They didn't let him play this year for the same reason they didn't let Noel play last year. Tanking. It doesn't take a year and a half to be able to play from an ACL injury yet Noel had that injury happen in college and he still missed the whole NBA season. Wiggins also is a good judge of Embiid's workout habits because he was with him at KU. He knows how Embiid would be from a workout perspective. If there were no red flags in college why should we care about what's going down in Philly when it could easily be attributed to how they are handling his comeback and like Noel keeping him out a year and a half with an injury? It doesn't even take a year and a half to pitch after Tommy John so I'm supposed to believe his foot injury is the one injury with a greater than 12 months recovery time. How many athletes do you know have injuries that project them to not be able to physically play their sport more than a year after the injury if their careers aren't already ended by that injury?
I don't see Philly even thinking about trading Embiid. I too think they want 1 of the 2 guards and would swap picks in order to make that happen. Thus turning out to be a Towns/Okafor for Russell/Mudiay based deal.

What if say the land number 2 and draft Okafor and we land the 4th. I can't see them keeping Noah, Embiid, Saric and Okafor/Towns.
Swapping picks make sense for both teams but what would we have to give up?

Considering what they've be giving up in trading down (not much as the talent of the top 3-4 is all fairly close), I could see it being a couple 2nd rounders, maybe a player thrown in as a flier. Not a lot.
Interesting that embiid has been brought up. If we miss out on the top 2 picks and philly got either 1 or 2 then I will think long and hard about trading our pick(3 or 4) for embiid. I dont see the sixers trade down if they could land okafor/towns. So they might consider trading embiid or noel to draft mudiay or russel.
Im on the fence with embiid since there where reports of attitude/weight problems with him to add to injury concerns. But the guy is full of potential and would be an excellent compliment to wiggins and rubio if he play up to his potential. Noel is another nice piece to have as well. If philly will include covington + embiid/noel for our first(as long as its not the top 2) + a 2nd from us then I might pull the trigger. Embiid might be better than okafor and towns if he stays healthy the rest of his career and I could see noel developing into a solid starter and elite defender. Covington at 1m /yr is a bargain and the type of volume 3pt shooter we need more of.
Embiid/Noel + covington for our pick(not top 2) + a 2nd seems like a good deal for us.

I was thinking that too Grey. We have the 31st pick this year which is a good pick these days. I wonder if that would entice them? I just can't see it being that easy. Other teams tend to bleed us dry of assets in trades.

The 31st pick can be worth more than some late 1sts if there happens to be oversees talent that can benefit from signing a non structured deal much like we did with Pek.

There's a lot of BS in the media and the weight rumor was just that. Pics were posted of Embiid right after those rumors came about and he was no overweight.
Them trading MCW was a clear sign to many that they will be targeting a guard with their top pick. I wouldn't even be surprised if they went with one of them with the 1st or 2nd pick b/c the talent is that close (they'd be dumb not to attempt to swap if the opportunity is there). If the Wolves were stacked at C/PF and needed a guard that would likely tweak their board as well. When the BPA is very close, need helps tip the scale which is what it likely will do for the Sixers.
Grey, you think russel/mudiay is close to towns/okafor?
Towns/ okafor are the consensus top 2 here. Its never wise to not pick the bpa.
It really depends on how the sixers view towns/okafor vs embiid/noel. If they see towns/okafor as better than embiid/noel then they will draft them and look to trade the other two for the guard they covet. If they like embiid/noel more, then yes they would look to trade down but they wont settle for 2nd round picks as add ons.
A lot of lotto teams covets and need a towns/okafor. We will certainly be outbid if they choose to trade down. I dont see us making a trade swap with them.

I don't see how we could be outbid when we are the only team that can give them Russell who they blatantly want. However they have to get SOMETHING of value to move down and like other posters have said the 1st pick of the 2nd round is somewhat valuable and the perfect piece to flip spots in my opinion.
