For the thousandth time on this board, Anthony Bennett can't make threes. I'd rather him not shoot from the perimeter at all, actually. Better yet, pass the ball. Get it out of his hands.

36/96 or 2/8. Who is the one who can't make threes?

I see what you did there, rage.

I actually think both Bennett and Towns could become excellent 3-point shooters in the NBA, Both have beautiful shooting strokes, and have demonstrated an ability to hit threes at a high rate...just not at the level they are currently playing at. But I think their lack of success last year on threes is due to the same reason...a coach that discouraged them from shooting them. A poor decision by both Calipari and Saunders, I think.

TRKO, this was a great idea. Here are my choices:

Head coach:

I would probably try to get Jim Boylen from San Antonio Spurs. For some reason those former San Antonio assistant coaches tend to be successful head coaches. Jim Boylen was also assistant in Indiana before, so he has been able to follow already two successful head coaches.

1st pick:

Towns is also my selection. I think he could play next to both Pek and Dieng and if someone could benefit about Garnett's mentoring, it's Towns who has quite similar skill set.

Other moves:

Trade Martin to some playoff team that needs veteran scorer. I think one of the most important things in building contender is roster stability and injury prone players will cause team roster change from game to game. Memphis would be maybe desperate enough to give a 1st round pick and something else useful for Martin. At least they were desperate enough to sign Vince Carter for 3-years deal last summer.

So Martin for Courtney Lee and this years 1st round pick (deal can be done only after draft since Memphis has traded their next years pick). Draft some euro stash with that pick.

Same could be tried with Pek but I'm pretty sure that no team will give anything useful for him because the size and length of his contract.

Get Garnett mainly for assistant couch. He can still sign 1-year veteran minimum deal and play his final 20 games as Wolf before retiring and being just full time assistant coach instead.

I would try to sign Cory Joseph from Spurs. I don't know though how that would be possible since he would be backup also here. Maybe having another Canadians Wiggins and Bennett would help and maybe he could see Rubio's injury history as an opportunity to get starting role when Rubio is injured again. Joseph is very good defensive player and his play making and shooting has improved every season. He is also good finisher on drives.

Final roster:
PG: Rubio, Joseph
SG: Lavine, Lee, Budinger
SF: Wiggins, Muhammad, Hummel
PF: Towns, Payne, Bennett, Garnett
C: Pek, Dieng, Hamilton

I would try to get Milwaukee assistant coach Sean Sweeney. I think he has been more responsible for Milwaukee's great defense than Kidd. I would also try to get Atlanta's shooting coach. He has to be miracle maker. Here are shooting numbers of some Atlanta players:

DeMarre Carroll Prior Atlanta: 3P% .284 last season: 3P% .395 with 5 3-pointers taken per 36 min
Mike Scott as rookie 3-ponters 0/1 last season: 3P% .344 with 6.2 3-pointers per 36 min
Dennis Schroder as rookie 3P% .238 last season: 3P% .351 with 3.5 3-pointers per 36 min
Paul Millsap Prior Atlanta: 3P% .274 last two seasons: 3P% .357 with 3.2 3-pointers per 36 min
Jeff Teague as rookie 3P% .219 last season: 3P% .343 with 3.3 3-pointers per 36 min

So mikeman are you saying people can improve their 3 point shooting? But we like to write players off.after 1 or 2 seasons on this board.

Hope like hell to win the lottery... draft Towns. Look smarter than if the ping pong ball gods had not been so generous.

That's my plan.

Kevin Garnett wants no part of coaching supposedly.

I wish he would retire and take whatever role they've surely already discussed for him.

We don't play half the season on back to backs. There's also talks of dropping the number of back to backs down to 16 next year so it would be even less. He'll play 50-60 games which is more than your half the season comment and if they reduce back to backs further he might be able to play more than that.

Continuity is usually very important for a team. As much as Garnett could conceivably help when he plays... how much damage does it cause when he's out?

How would it be any more damaging than a Rubio or Pek injury or any injury for that matter? It's not a good enough reason to criticize the move to keep him because you could literally make that argument for every player on every team in the league. Also if a guy plays 20 MPG's and your team is dealt significant damage when that player is out then your team isn't good enough for it to matter enough whether he should or shouldn't be brought back. It's a big reach to insinuate we shouldn't bring him back because his 20+ missed games is seriously going to hurt our continuity when we are going to be bad anyway.

Well, losing Pekovic and Rubio does do a lot of damage when they're not in the lineup.

And I agree that the Wolves are going to bad. So then the question comes in whether Garnett for 15 - 20 minutes for 47 - 65 games is enough to make a long-term difference?... since it won't matter too much next season, or the year after.
