Agreed. Flip's not trending upwards, in my opinion.
Isn't it obvious already that we won with the Young/KG trade?
Williams for Neal is looking solid for now too.
Payne is promising so we'll have to wait and see. The only thing that sucks is there's less trade flexibility.
Thad is shooting close to 60% since he's been traded
Mo is averaging 21 a game with the Hornets so far
Payne is barely shooting 30% from the field
What the hell are you talking about?

I think I understand the real reason for all the hand wringing in this thread...this reduces the chance of seeing more of AP and AB at center, or Bud at PF!
Sure, there were moments this year (and not many) when Flip needed to play Brewer at PG. But Flip knew that was temporary, and he really wanted to give Zach a good shot at PG, so finding a 3rd string PG was not as critical as finding a big man now. Flip knows he has a starting center who he can't count on to play every night and is always a threat to be shut down for the season, and a PF that he wants to limit to 20 minutes per night. He absolutely needed to find a center to back up Pek and Gorgui, and apparently this is the guy they have been trying to get for a long time. I admit to know nothing about Hamilton, but I'm happy his presence will help ensure we don't have guys playing out of position.
As for GR3, I was never on board. He didn't impress me in college, and he didn't show me anything in his limited minutes this year. You guys can rip on Saunders, Mitchell, Lowe et al, but I have to believe that guys with their level of NBA experience are more skilled at evaluating NBA talent than all of us. They have had a chance to watch Glenn in practice for most of an entire season now, and they haven't seen enough to move him ahead of Budinger on the depth chart. That tells me a lot about Robinson. Maybe I'm wrong and some playoff team will scoop him up, and GR3 will make a huge statement in the playoffs, but I would bet heavily against it. He seems like a nice guy, but from what I have seen, Glenn's basketball future is more likely in Europe or China.
As for the comments that Flip cold have made this move earlier, I tend to agree, But don't underestimate the ego of the typical NBA executive. Letting a draft pick go early in his first year is an admission of failure, and no GM wants that. I'm sure he liked Robinson's pedigree and athleticism and really wanted him to succeed, but after watching him all year, he saw it wasn't going to happen.
I don't know what Flip has picked up in this guy, but I don't think he has given up much in letting GR3 go. Good luck to Glenn though.

Young for Garnett was only a win for those that wanted a memory jog or for management that wanted some sellout crowds. He's helped our defense, no doubt, but at 20 MPG the impact isn't great enough. I'm alone on this one, but that's okay with me.
Have you seen what Mo's been doing with Charlotte? Averaging 22/9 as a fill-in starter while Kemba's out. Neal's been somewhat productive in his own right, but not on that level. Honestly, I would have rather kept Mo for the rest of the year, but that trade was a courtesy for Mo.
The Payne trade sucks. Everybody knows why. We just choose to be hopeful rather than real about it. The only thing he's shown is a good energy putout and the great tendency to leave his feet for all things that look like a shot attempt. Should Flip draft a big this summer, I struggle to even see how Payne gets minutes next year.
Go Wolves!

So, I guess GRIII's problem was Flip wouldn't let him play, not that he didn't earn playing time? I don't know much, but the result of this trade is likely to be that chair GRIII sat in at the end of the bench will remain warm.

No, you're not alone... you have alex solidly in your corner.

We all know the guy isn't going to play anyway. There's 6 weeks left, he doesn't know the playbook, and there's still a lot of guys on the roster who will get playing time over him, even Bennett when he get's healthy

I don't see anyone acting like that. All it is, is you don't find cheaper young contract players than 2nd rounders and as far as talent goes for a U.S. player in the 2nd round he had about as much as one can without them having some kind of serious red flag on their resume.

I actually expect him to play a lot. Pek's; health issues and KG's minutes limit puts Flip in a box, so he needs that 3rd center lots of nights...I wish it was still Turiaf. I think Flip just wants him to play defense and board, so I don't think not knowing the playbook will be a factor. Less wear and tear on Pek the Iron Horse has to be a good thing.

Then why trade a guy who can play 35-40 minutes a night, for a guy who can only play 10-20 and no back to backs?

A lot of guys can play 35-40 a night, but do they make us a better team. Flip concluded that we couldn't win with Thad at PF, and I agree. You and I just have different opinions on this one. KG looked like our best player last night in his 21 minutes, while Young can't crack the starting lineup on a bad Nets team. Plus Flip doesn't have to pay Thad $10 million next year, and that's a win by itself.
