The good news is that last night's loss almost assures us the 2nd worst record.

Oh but we have a very high draft pick coming, that will get everyone excited!! We do so well in developing those guys!

That has certainly been a problem in the past, but recent history tells me we may have to come up with a new narrative. Wiggins has exceeded most people's estimates of what he would do his rookie year and is a cinch for ROY, and LaVine will rank in the top 5 in rookie scoring and assists, despite only being a 13th pick. And somebody posted an article on here a month or so ago that had Muhammad and Dieng ranked in the top 5 of that draft class, even though neither was picked in the top ten. I would say that only AB has been a developmental disappointment in the past two years, but there is even some hope there. I would argue that it is difficult to come up with a team that has drafted and developed better than the Wolves the past two years.

The Bucks have an argument at least.

Giannis
Jabari
Middleton
MCW (didn't develop him, but he's ROY nonetheless)

Good call, cam...I still put the wolves' last two years slightly ahead. It seems like we should at least be able to table the "can't develop anyone" narrative for awhile.

I agree. I was just playing devil's advocate.

I agree with what you're saying, though. I believe we have the best group of young guys + potential in the NBA. This year's pick will put us THAT much more over the top.

Not to be the buzzkill guy...but I remember a few years back when there was a thread on this topic where most people agreed the Wolves have one of the best young cores in the NBA along with the Thunder and Blazers.

I think we definitely have some pieces, but this team has a LOT of dead weight too, so if this core ends up developing, then we better get some legit rotational depth. There's a reason that Payne had like 6 minutes of playing time on a playoff contending team before he came to Minnesota.

Yeah, because Payne sucks. I'm not even counting him or Bennett in our young core.

- Wiggins
- 2015 lottery pick (Towns please)
- Rubio
- Muhammad
- Dieng
- LaVine

I know what you mean, but I'm not ready to say that Muhammad, Dieng, or even LaVine are "definitely" part of our core going forward. I think LaVine probably is, Muhammad may be, and I'm somewhat skeptical on Dieng being a long term core piece.
