I changed my mind
Re: I changed my mind
Well put Drew. That's the key. What TRULY is the relationship between Love and the Wolves (from players to the owner)? It's up to Flip to figure that out and make that call. The fact Flip seems content starting the season with Love tells me the chemistry and all that isn't as terrible as the media makes it out to be. It just wouldn't make sense in this situation with the type of deals on the table to bring in a superstar that has a terrible relationship with the team. I think him looking hard at trades has more to do with Love not wanting to resign here (whatever circumstances those are). Time will tell.

I agree. The chemistry issues are overblown. You don't trade a great player like Love simply because he's not a good leader or because he's not beloved by his teammates. The only reason Flip is considering a trade is the uncertainty over whether Love would re-sign here after next season. We don't know exactly what Love or his agent has told Flip in that regard. I suspect they've told Flip he's inclined to leave or that he doesn't see himself returning after next season -- leaving a little room for the possibility of re-signing.

Here is some speculation that comes from a pro Love person many posters are goinna think I'm nuts but hear me out.
What if Love was more disappointed about the way the season went than any Wolves fan especially since it looked like this was the year the team was primed to make the next step. I was watching clips of Hummel and one game when Robbie was nailing shots Love was up going crazy off the bench waving his towel cheering hard. That was November or December when hope was still alive. The Wolves went on to have another losing season. Let's say at the end of the season Love and Flip sat down and Love said something like "Flip this season was tough. I'm tired of losing I know everyone is. I want to win and I don't want this to sound like an ultimatum but I suppose it is I want to play for a winner and if we don't win this year I'll opt out. I realize this may put you in a position where you may want to trade me because you would lose me for nothing." They I'm sure would have had plenty to talk about after that but I would think they would have agreed to try and stay quiet this summer and for Love who is a fun media personality has been pretty quiet for him.
To be continued...
I realize my narrative makes Love sound pretty good maybe but let's say that's pretty much how it went down. How far from what has been reported in the media is my positive spin speculative "truth" I have put forth? Not far at all and I rip the media pretty often.
I heard this morning on Cowherd that Bill Simmons says that he thinks the Love deal has been basically done for a while. I know BS is not popular here but I don't discount everything he says because he is very smart and he does have some worth. His basic premise was of course that Wiggins and Bennett were not mentioned in the letter and he said that not mentioning Wiggins was very odd and he couldn't get around that. It got me thinking with Lebron going to Cleveland what if that changed the game? Love could have contacted Flip and said something like "Flip playing with Lebron would be amazing if you can get Wiggins and other assets or whatever would make sense to you that would be awesome. I'm not demanding a trade but obviously playing with Lebron and Kyrie would be awesome." I can't imagine that some communication between the Wolves and Love hasn't happened once the Lebron bomb dropped and opened up that opportunity. What adds to this intruige is Flip said "We will see what happens on the 11th" so maybe Flip knew something about what Lebron was going to do or had a significant inkling of what was about to happen.
More to come typing on my phone...
So what's the holdup if this deal was sort of agreed upon? Flip only wants Bennet and Wiggins plus unloading salaries so he can make another move. What if Flip doesn't really value Waiters or Thompson in the package and the Cavs already knew that and therefore Lebron knew that too? I've got more to say but gotta go to work.
Discuss... Lol

Re: I changed my mind
He was out the door for me when he essentially referred to us like just 1 of 30 teams in the league in multiple interviews instead of the team that he is currently under contract with. He's seen the greener pastures in Chicago and Cleveland and he's not going to be happy if he has to come back to this team when he could have been dealt to better situations. He wouldn't dog it because he wants to win and play well, but he's as good as gone in my opinion when the year is done. Unless we make a WCF, I don't see him coming back and considering we are going to be fighting for the 8th spot I doubt that happens.

To finish my thoughts of my previous post...
TT is a guy some people here like or like Lip and I assume Flip wants because we need someone at PF. What if Flip has seen enough and feels like TT is basically just going to be the next Jason Thompson a nice backup. TT will need to be paid after this season so unless you are really convinced he is your guy at PF do you really want him? Maybe Flip decided he wanted 2 potential guys in Bennett and Wiggins plus a pick or 2 and then have salary to get a PF in another deal to get the Wolves competitive at least for this year. If he could pull that off and its far from crazy it may look like a really smart move and I wonder if its already done there are just a lot of pieces to what both the Cavs and Flip are trying to do to make it all work.
Also just to clarify my previous post puts Love in about the best reasonable light possible and unless he does return which is the desire of this thread I don't know if it matters. He is part way out if not much much farther. It doesn't matter unless the almost unthinkable happens (based on the likeliness of a Cavs trade) and Love is on the Wolves roster when the season opens. I can't even say what I hope for right now its difficult because I want Love to stay pretty badly but iit feels like its a matter of time before this trade goes down.

According to Laker fans, they should be a 4-5 seed!

Re: I changed my mind
Abe nailed it. At least there's one guy who doesn't think I'm nuts.
Drew, I agree completely.
Monster, I've had the same thoughts. There are a ton of reports thrown around that never have any quotes. It's like the game telephone. Love's agent tells Flip that Kevin is going to opt out no matter what, which makes financial sense, and the anti-small-market media spin that into Kevin saying directly that he refuses to re-sign in Minnesota. Love says he wants to be on a winning team, and that is twisted to say he wants out of Minnesota.
Here are the facts as we currently stand. No conjecture or heresay.
1. Love wants to be on a team that can make the playoffs and contend for a title.
2. Love will opt out this offseason.
That's it. Nowhere has Love or his camp said he wants out, he just said he wants to win. If Flip can turn the Wolves into a winner this year, there is a good chance Minnesota will look better than any team that will have cap space next offseason. The only question is how much faith Flip has in himself and in our young players. If he sees a mid seed as realistic, he'll keep Love unless he gets a jaw-dropping offer. If he thinks team's ceiling this year is an 8 seed and a sweep, he'll trade him.

That's too low for the mighty lakers! They have the highest paid player in the league! Linsanity v2 is about to happen la style. They drafted the soon to be rookie of the year. Jordan hill is going to be a 9m a yr player and they might not even need a coach to coach them! Don't forget about smiley Wes and swaggy p!
Re: I changed my mind
The reality is that we do not need quotes from Love as to his intentions. Flip knows what Love wants and will act accordingly. Seeing that the trade talks have gotten as far as they have is a pretty clear indication that Flip believes Love staying is a lost cause. Flip would not trade him otherwise.

Same here lol. I don't know what I want right now given the fact we don't really know everything. All I know is if there is little to no chance of him returning I want him traded as soon as they get a good/great offer.
