It looks that way so far, although Naz was better in the Wolves second preseason game than he was in the first. In Thursday's game against the Lakers, Jeff VanGundy went out of his way to praise Naz, calling him "a very good backup center." I agree with Jeff. But I don't think he adds much to the Wolves, especially given how well Knight has been playing and his potential. I think this would be a good time to cash in on Reid's value as a "very good backup center" who is still very young with upside and on a very team-friendly contract. I think we could get at least two future 2nd-round picks if not a top 20 protected 1st. I'm not opposed to keeping Naz. But it would be nice to replenish some of our draft capital.
Lip I don't think Naz has the value you think he has. An undersized center, that provides little to no rim protection, gets bullied by bigger centers, to slow to play the 4, not a good rebounder, and is about to get a raise in free agency. He is a very solid backup offensive center but you can't run offense through him. Naz will have a decently long nba career but think he has little to no value around the nba. Maybe could get a top 50 protected pick or a 3rd string PG for him
Yeah, I think there was a time where Naz Reid legitimately had some trade value -- during and after his second season -- but since then he's shown little growth in his game and stagnated in terms of what he could be despite being just 23-years old.
I would expect the most Minnesota could get for him right now is a future second-round pick or a young player of lesser value, which wouldn't be worth trading him for given the lack of big man depth on a win-now roster.
I actually see Naz playing more PF than C this year. He played a handful of minutes next to Gobert last game and actually looked a lot better their on both ends of the floor.

The other problem is that he is a FA and teams have a bunch money probably especially ones that would want to acquire him. I had suggested before the Gobert trade that Reid could have value to the Wolves when FA hit because he would have a low cap hold. Well that likely won't matter now for the Wolves and for most teams that isn't a draw either.
Like you I think at one point Reid probably had some nice value. I don't think he was ever a guy that was quite worth a late first round pick but maybe a really good 2nd. The thing was though at the time the Wolves probably figured they would rather have the young talented guy on their roster than trade for another rookie. Again I just don't think right now a team is gonna trade for Naz. If the Wolves make some sort of deal in season I could see Naz being a guy that is part of a deal or maybe a team making a playoff run gives up a 2nd or something to get him in a trade deadline deal. Of course that's assuming the Wolves don't want to keep him in their own rotation...whatever that even looks like.
I think Naz could still grow his game and maybe be a fairly valuable player but NBA teams are gonna look to sign him as a FA next offseason. Maybe a team with too many 2nd rounders gives up one to acquire him. I'm not holding my breath on that especially since the Wolves have basically been valuing him in giving him minutes in these preseason games.
FYI McClung signed an Exhibit 10 deal with the Sixers and they acquired his G-league returning player rights. Obviously any team could still sign him but it looks like the expectation is he will go the the Blue Coats and try and work his way into an NBA deal in some way there.
I don't know... I think Naz had a pretty good preseason, and that there's a pretty decent chance of him being traded this season for a draft pick, maybe even a pretty good pick. There's a logjam for MN bigs, there's a dearth of draft picks now, the Wolves won't be able resign him after the season and Naz is a pretty good dude that isn't likely to play much -- the team would be doing him a solid by trading him where he'll play and get paid. I'd imagine agents and players remember that kind of thing.

Yeah, this thread did not age well... (mine included!) ;-)
