I have no clue what happened to Davis last season, but the two seasons before that he was a real presence coming off the bench. He's not THAT old - like 31 or 32.

Either way, I do think having another solid vet presence can may be help a guy like Naz Reid continue to develop.

I really would have preferred Milsap, Crowder, or Tucker (via trade). Davis is definitely a pleasant surprise, but probably won't play a ton (unlike Rubio, our other vet pickup).

Davis passes "The Rosas Test" twice over -- playing both for David Vanterpool in Portland (2015-2018) and for Pablo Prigioni in Brooklyn (2018-19).

Experience in Vanterpool's drop scheme on defense and the zipping offensive scheme in BKN.

From Dane Moore

Interesting. He just doesn't fit the player-type mold since he seemingly passed on other paint bigs that were also fairly affordable in order to sign Beasley and Juancho.

The level of excitement for this acquisition tells you where we are as a franchise. I can't get excited about it.

You mean you can't get excited for an end of the bench big man? Where is your team spirit Cool?

I actually think it'll be fairly important to open up a spot for J-Mac to return. Both Rosas and Boy Wonder have talked about playing D-Lo and Rubio together, which means they'll also need a third point guard that can play big boy minutes.

McLaughlin was surprisingly productive in about 20 minutes per game for 30 games as an undrafted rookie. He's not a guy that changes the direction of this franchise, but I think it was smart to make the requisite moves in order to keep him.

I know. I really hope this team surprises me and greatly improves this year. I've been optimistic in the past and have been disappointed. But the honest truth is I see a disaster here. My only hope is Edwards lives up to his #1 draft pick status.

I have one semi-comforting thought. It should be pretty obvious by the trade deadline this is a disaster. We should be able to replenish some draft capital by trading KAT and DLO. At least we won't have to wait an extra year to get another 1st round draft pick.

Ed Davis fits a purpose I guess. Big man who plays hard and rebounds. However looks like TJ Leaf was acquired by OKC for a similar price. I would have prefered Leaf, but neither really move the needle.

Why did Utah give up two second rounders just to move his contract?

I can buy that, but it still doesn't get me too excited.
