I just don't feel like we are a playoff contender. We should be. We gave away so many winnable games early in the season. But the ship has sailed. It's not that we are too far back, it's how many teams we would have to pass up. The odds of us getting hotter than all of those teams given our remaining schedule is slim. Just keeping it real.

I ran the Klunk-O-Meter numbers yesterday. The battle for the 8th spot is predicted to shake out like this:
8) Sacramento (35-47)
9) Portland (34-48)
10) New Orleans (32-50)
11) Denver (31-51)
12) Dallas (30-52)
13) Minnesota (28-54)
Pretty sad. Portland had an anti-klunker last night, so they move into a tie for the 8th spot. The Wolves need a whole lot of anti-klunkers, and hope none of the 5 teams above them gets hot.
So, yeah...

Really interesting stuff, Tim...on several fronts.
First, your analysis supports the work Q has done, and my thought that the Wolves need as many as 8-9 upsets to have a chance (very discouraging and almost hopeless, but all should check out Mikkeman's post from last night that at least provides a hopeful road map.
Second, how odd that 35 wins could get a team into the playoffs!
Finally, I don't think anyone here would have named Sac-town as the winner here, although I may be the lone voice saying I think they may have won the trade. Your KOM is usually pretty good, so I assume Sac-town must have a very easy schedule the rest of the way.
Let's see what happens. Good work, Tim.

We really messed this season up early in the year, which I know is obvious, but what makes it more painful is that it was probably the easiest part of our schedule! Ugh, we had so many winnable games in that stretch, often against injury-racked teams. Now the schedule is coming home to roost with a ton of road games.
That being said, I still think Thibs' mentality has to be to win as many games as humanly possible. We CAN NOT soft tank!

With all due respect to the work people have done here I just don't see the Wolves going 7-18 to finish the season when they have been winning around half the games on their schedule for over 2 months. I'll got out on a limb here so guess and guarantee at least 30 wins. Regardless the spread of the team bunched up won't be big and I predicted that had a good chance of happening before the season started.

I don't know if I would go that far Abe, but I think the deal was a lot closer than most.

I think this team could tighten up the lose ends and end strong. I'm not prepared to call any game a sure loss against any team not named the Warriors, Spurs, or Cavaliers. I'll be the homer who thinks we can do it. Go Wolves.

Love the Klunk-o-meter, but the Wolves have been under performing most of the season.
Wish we had Lance Stephenson tonight.

I wish we had Stephenson's defense meshed with Lavine's outside shot and attitude... and the cap space to sign him long term!

Sacramento had a klunker last night. They might have been on top in the KOM, but they seem like the team most likely to fall in the standings with Cousins gone.
