MVP and "Best Player In The World" aren't synonymous for me. They should be, but that's not how the league operates. If that were the case, Derrick Rose and Kevin Durant wouldn't have MVP trophies. Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki would be MVP-less as well. If we go back a little further, Karl Malone and Charles Barkley wouldn't have trophies either. That's not to talk bad about them in any way, though. I just think people get tired of talking about the same things all the time.

This ^^^^^ was going to be my reply.
If Curry were 20 years old and you knew what he'd become I think I take him 9 times out of 10, but right now at 27 vs a 20yo KAT, I take KAT.

You're kind of straying from the discussion. I agree, the MVP isn't always the best player in the world. But MVP or not, I think you have to consider Curry the best right now. And if really pressed, I might not even put Lebron #2. I think Davis, Durant and Westbrook should at least be in the discussion.

I actually don't "have to" agree with you or anyone else that thinks Curry's the best player in the world. I don't think he is. It's not a jab at him as a player or him as a person or anything like that. I think he's a great talent and deserving of the MVP award he's bound to win at the end of the year.
Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, Chris Paul, DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis... They're all great players. They just aren't LeBron James.
As for straying from the discussion, I don't believe that was my fault either. If you remember, earlier in the thread, this conversation was supposed to be centered around Towns. I suppose you'd take Curry over Towns to build around then?

If we're going to be technical, you're initial point had nothing to do with "building around" someone. You simply stated you wouldn't trade Towns for Curry. I took your comment at face value and disagreed, simple as that.

Yes, you are correct. My apologies. The conversation was that I wouldn't trade Towns for Curry, not that Curry was or wasn't the best player in the world. You threw in a comment about Curry being the best player in the world and I disagreed, but I also said that I didn't feel like opening up that debate and yet here we are...

Debating is what we do here. You would be hard pressed to find many threads that start and stay on the same, singular topic. Thanks for keeping it cordial.

As I stated in another thread I wouldn't trade Towns for anyone that that includes Curry. That's from the perspective of a team that's building. If this team was closer to .500 or whatever and you thought adding Curry and filling out the roster would give you a real chance at a championship next seaso then sure but that's not happening and that's not a dog on Curry it's a dig on this young roster. He is about to turn 28. Towns is the most talented big man to come along in what 20 years?
Curry is a great player and fun as hell to watch. My position is way more about how I highly value Towns than anything about Curry. Both guys are a joy to watch.

Anyone want to make a prediction for what Towns final scoring average will be? It seems the way he has been rolling lately at least 18ppg seems pretty likely which seems crazy. He is running away and hiding with the ROY at this point and barely edging Okafor in scoring.
My prediction is Towns ends up with 18.5ppg for the season.

If Towns went down for the season with an injury he'd still win ROY, he's been that good IMO!
