To trade away someone like Simmons for a good player, likely not an all-star player because he fits our team now doesn't make sense to me. In my opinion, if you get Simmons and don't think Rubio is a good fit you flip Rubio faster than you can say bye-bye. If he's as good as most on this board think we should be able to get a ransom for him.
It's never a bad thing to look at perfect fit. It just can't be the
only thing you look at, and it's not. You're correct, our three young, high-potential players are 21-ish. Rubio's 25, Dieng's 26. Favors is 24. He's not even in his prime yet and if his history tells us anything, it's that he hasn't stopped improving his game. Every year he's gotten better. And I do think it's a bit comical how quick you are to label him as "likely not an All-Star". He's not even in his prime yet and he's putting up 16.4 PPG / 8.2 RPG / 1.6 APG / 1. 2 SPG / 1.4 BPG with a TS% of .551 (Anthony Davis' is .559) and a PER of 22.13, which would rank right behind Karl-Anthony Towns' PER of 22.75.
Favors is damn good. There is no denying that. He's also been relatively durable over his six seasons playing in 89.5% of the possible 476 games to this point. If you're telling me that I have the trade assets necessary to acquire this beast, and he fills almost every major need we have, then I'm going after him. I'd like to think that I'm not the only one on this board or in an NBA front office that would likely do the same.
PS: Rubio's going no where.
