Duke13 wrote:That's is laughable. You would trade Simmons for Favors?!? There would be a league wide investigation for collusion. I get you may dislike him as a prospect but cmon, then trade what most think to be a transendant talent to another up and coming western conference team is bananas. Sorry duder you need to be committed.
Favors is 24 and damn good on both ends of the floor. I don't see it as a losing trade at all.
Also, if you paid any attention, you would have already seen how many times I've touted Simmons. I like the specific skill set Favors has, plus the win-now while still being young factor he has. He's a net positive right this second. I can't guarantee Simmons will be that, though I think he has a very good chance to.

If we get No. 2, I probably offer it to Utah for Derrick Favors and see what they say. If they decline him being available, I probably just take Ben Simmons and feel good about it.
That's my simple answer. There could be other options depending on who's available that we don't know about, though.
Pretty much this. Ingram is the lengthy SF/PF this team can use. He doesn't have the girth yet but looks like he could be a real monster and can shoot the ball too. He doesn't strike me as a guy that has to have the ball a lot to be effective either.
I know some people would have a tough time with #2 which is probably Simmons for Favors and I would think some other salaries may have to be thrown in but Favors is young and good on both ends and Towns Favors Dieng would be a monster front court rotation. You would just need to add some solid bench guys to compliment them and Bjelica might be part of that already.

I'll say this for fun that I just hope that if the Wolves don't jump up to the top couple picks I hope they stay at #5 they have had a lot of good luck picking there. :)

I think it's a mistake to look at a perfect fit with our team now. Our core three players have the average age of 21. We don't know who or what they are. To trade away someone like Simmons for a good player, likely not an all-star player because he fits our team now doesn't make sense to me. In my opinion, if you get Simmons and don't think Rubio is a good fit you flip Rubio faster than you can say bye-bye. If he's as good as most on this board think we should be able to get a ransom for him.

Not one GM in the league would trade Simmoms for Favors, not one.

Plenty of #2 overall picks didn't turn out to be all that exciting. Favors was #3 overall pick himself.

It's never a bad thing to look at perfect fit. It just can't be the
only thing you look at, and it's not. You're correct, our three young, high-potential players are 21-ish. Rubio's 25, Dieng's 26. Favors is 24. He's not even in his prime yet and if his history tells us anything, it's that he hasn't stopped improving his game. Every year he's gotten better. And I do think it's a bit comical how quick you are to label him as "likely not an All-Star". He's not even in his prime yet and he's putting up 16.4 PPG / 8.2 RPG / 1.6 APG / 1. 2 SPG / 1.4 BPG with a TS% of .551 (Anthony Davis' is .559) and a PER of 22.13, which would rank right behind Karl-Anthony Towns' PER of 22.75.
Favors is damn good. There is no denying that. He's also been relatively durable over his six seasons playing in 89.5% of the possible 476 games to this point. If you're telling me that I have the trade assets necessary to acquire this beast, and he fills almost every major need we have, then I'm going after him. I'd like to think that I'm not the only one on this board or in an NBA front office that would likely do the same.
PS: Rubio's going no where.

Most likely not, but we were in serious trade talks with involving him at the deadline, so to say it's not a possibility is a stretch. Dude there isn't one GM in the league who would consider Favors a better prospect than Simmons. Because we are a poor rebounding team you have a hard on for a decent PF and think it's the perfect fit. Cam can you tell us again how you were so spot on with your analysis about Towns. That was brilliant stuff!

It's obvious you are very high on Simmons. That's fair enough just realize not everyone thinks he is a no brainer prospect.

Simmons is an awesome prospect and I thought that I had talked about him with pretty high interest throughout most, if not all, of the season. He just doesn't bring some of the things I feel like we absolutely need right now and moving forward, such as a space-eating body next to Towns (Favors is a legitimate 6'10, 265), reliable jumper, post defense, more rim protection, defending well in space and most importantly, he's proven his value in the NBA. Simmons brings some of the things Favors does in terms of rebounding, ball movement and the ability to score, but it's those other things that would make me deal him for Favors.
In my eyes, that hypothetical trade isn't just a "win now" trade, but it's also a "win in the future" trade. Favors is still a young guy in the league (24) despite having veteran status due to his six years of experience. I'm banking on the player Favors already is while betting on the probability that he'll continue to improve instead of Simmons' super high ceiling.
