Back to trading down...

One constant I see in most every mock draft is the first 7 picks are always dominated by the same players. Yeah, it is a 2-player draft at the top, but after those 2 players only 5 other players are chosen in all these mock drafts. So if you are not picking 1 or 2, it is a 7-player draft.

So why would we want to trade out of the top 7 (unless the real value you are getting is a vet)?

Good point Tim. I'm not a fan of trading down to get lesser talent.

Besides trading 5 to Denver for 7 and 15, not for trading down.

7 could get us Murray /Dunn AND Sabonis at 15.

I don't think No. 7 gets you Murray or Dunn, and I'm really confident Sabonis goes in the lottery. So, we'd likely miss out on both guys.

It seems it would depend on where Jaylen Brown goes and if someone else jumps up into that top 7.

Agree, and Brown seems like the kind of guy whose stock goes up after teams get to know him better...terrific character and athleticism. That said, I would prefer not to take him.

According to DraftExpress, 7 and 15 could get us Murray and Sabonis, as they currently have them going 8th and 18th currently. Now, I don't see Denver giving us 7 and 15 in exchange for 5, but if they did, does anyone disagree that Murray and Sabonis would be a better haul than any individual player likely to be available at 5?

Draftexpress has raised Marquese Chriss to 3rd and has currently Murray going with number 8. I guess that they think that Chriss has plenty of potential to be stretch four that is still capable to punish teams that go small from post as well.

He certainly does. He is also very young and has not been playing long. I think I read he started playing as a sophmore in high school. Only thing I think is missing from him is showing he can rebound.

Jamal Crawford who has worked out with him said he could easily be worth picking #3 so I'm sold. :) I'm kinda joking around but there is always a guy that moves up maybe Chriss is the guy this year. There is still plenty of time left for some movement to happen in the mock drafts.

I could see any of Murray, Hield, or Dunn making it to #7 with the chatter about Brown or Chriss to the Celtics or Suns. Sabonis lasting til 18 seems a bit too long. He's one of very few players who look to be productive right away, and at 20 still has upside. I'm not sure why people don't consider him being a potential stretch-four. The form on his jumpshot looks great.

I do agree that this is the best trade down idea. If we're trading down, i'd guess we are not interested in those 3 guards and are looking at a big. Sabonis/Poeltl at #7 and Prince/Valentine at #15 would be a good haul.
