Not so fast, sjm.

Adelman knows what he will get from DC...consistent effort, 75% shooting from 12 feet, but 15% from 14 feet.

Long, did you not see DC ask DW to switch off on Melo after he got schooled twice?

Are you saying DC was assigned to guard Melo and he asked DW to take him, sjm? Didn't notice. I have noticed that the board consensus is that Derrick was adequate defensively last night, and I'm in the minority. It could be that some of Melo's run with Corey out came against DC, not Derrick, and I didn't notice. What I did see were some poor decisions by Derrick that left Melo wide open for easy jumpers. Like the time he went for a steal in the 4th quarter that he had no chance at, and allowed an easy Melo bucket. Adelman yanked him right after that. I agree that Derrick's effort was there last night, but the results were not what I would have liked.

What I did like was the team defense last night. I have been giving Corey a lot of credit, but Rubio's help defense on Melo was critical. Not having to worry about Felton from beyond the arc allowed Ricky to double with impunity, and it worked like a charm in the first half.

It has always seemed that DC, particularly on offense will make every one of his shots or miss every shot. There is no in between with the guy. He is either great or horrible. JJ seems to have that too. Our bench is strange at this point. I think our issue on our bench is that JJ is a ball stopper. He passes as a last resort. If he is on it is great because the extra attention forces him to pass. But if he is cold he just tries to shoot his way out of slumps. I don't want to trade JJ though becuase I think he wins a handful of games every year. Ultimately though these are nitpicky issues. This is our second unit. Any trade for Williams is not going to bring us a starter because I believe Brewer is going to end up being one of Adelman's favorites. If that is truly the case I would just as soon keep Williams. If we stay healthy I like what Williams brings as a bench player on both ends of the court. His length is great against second units and 1st unit players who get tired. If anything Williams forces adjustments in the other teams defensive schemes.

In my opinion if we stay healthy then we don't really need a trade at this point. The more I look at it the more I am really liking this team. We have a mix of youth and experience. The only player really worth trading at this point would be Shved for a more bonafide, cheap, shooting 2. The 2 is our most fragile position at this point. Shved needs to step into his shot more and is not a spot up shooter. It makes sense to send him to a team heavy on shooters and needing a back up PG.

Adelman needs to start making teams pay when DWill is being guarded by a smaller player. Post him up on the block and let him go to work. As long as he doesn't try to be a highlight reel he can be very effective against smaller defenders

Melo blew by DC, and during the timeout DC came over to DW and motioned toward Melo. DW took over defending him after that, so I assumed that was the case.

Other than going for that steal, I thought DW did a good job contesting Melo. I know Petersen crucified DW for that move, but when your team hasn't scored a bucket in five minutes, maybe a gamble like that isn't the worst idea. Melo was hitting shots at that point whether he was contested or not. The part that puzzled me, is how little DW did offensively. He only took 5 shots. He seems to be passing up the perimeter shots a lot more.

Problem with that is JJ is usually the PG, and he just doesn't seem to look for those opportunities. DW had Fisher posted up a couple of times against OKC, but they never got him the ball.
