Pekovic -- Not The Problem
Re: Pekovic -- Not The Problem
It has nothing to do with hate. It is just simple stats, unlike when several want to look at 5 game increments. The truth is that Pek's worst traits aren't even represented there. He is the reason that PG's torch us on a nightly basis. Pek can't guard the PnR, never has been able to, and never will. I like Pek, but yes I think we overpaid for him. I don't feel he was a particularly good fit next to Love, and we should have taken that into account. We bid against ourselves for his contract, which makes no sense.
Do you not think he is just as responsible as Love for the loss last night?

Pek MUST be the problem on this team.

Yes, he must be, because you have shown definitive proof that it isn't our improving bench!

I think it's silly that we keep pointing fingers at our best players when the issue is clearly players 4-10. Do we have shot blocking? No. But we get damn near 50/25 out of our starting 4 and 5 on a nightly basis. Surround those two with competent perimeter defenders and wing play, and a bench that isn't giving up 11-12ppg, and you have a top four seed.
Instead, after Pek and Love, we have: a pg who can pass, rebound, and sorta defend... while posting the worst shooting % in the whole effing league. A sg who sometimes lights it up but mostly disappears for long stretches, can't create his own shot or function as a primary ball handler, and gets torched on defense. A sf with no shooting ability, no handle, a propensity to screw up, and laughably overrated defense. And from there it somehow gets even worse, with players 6-10 bringing almost nothing to the table.
This is a talent-poor roster. Could be guys underperforming, and we're missing what I consider to be potentially valuable back ups in Turiaf and Buddinger, but the fact is Barea, Shved, Cunningham, Hummel, and Mbah are marginal NBA players. If they're logging big minutes for your team, you should be riggin for Wiggins - not pushing for the playoffs in a brutal WC.

HEHEHEHEHE........ya......... I'm the poster on this board that doesn't back up my statements with facts.
Have you figured out that we didn't have a .500 team last year? (or for about the 10 years before that)
too funny!

Pek? come on. Give this team a player who can score 10 off the bench and this team has at least 8 more wins

Practically Budinger's career PPG, which is a point I keep throwing around. Glad others realize the same.
Re: Pekovic -- Not The Problem
Pek is not the problem nor is he a problem on the team.
Posters who defended pek has made good points. Posters like sjm keeps a blind eye on the positives pek brings to the team and keep on harping on his weakness.
The positives on pek is
1. Opposing bigs always needs to guard him. You wont see the opponents best defensive big on love all the time with pek in there. That makes love's life a lot easier.
2. Pek is always there fighting for offensive rebounds and getting himself into position for easy bunnies. Yes, we get frustrated with the easy shots that pek misses every game and the fumbles, but the guy is getting pushed, shoved underneath every game and he is so big and has such strong base that defenders gets away with a lot of push and no calls.
3. He makes his man work all the time. He has also started hitting mid range set shots and his passing has improve. He is also not a liability at the ft line unlike majority of the centers in the league.
4. He makes teammates better. he makes loves life easier by giving us another guy opposing bigs needs to stop. He also makes our guards like rubio better by simply being a guy who can score inside. Just think of how rubio plays when he was playing with darco and steimsma as opposed to pek and you will see how having pek in there helps the whole team.
His weakness is defense, and he is not as bad as some make him seem to be. He is no rim protector but he can hold his own againts the cousins, duncan, howard of the league and make them pay on the other end too. He wins his matchup on most nights.
The myth about pek and love not being able to play together is off. They are great on the offensive end together. The key is to get a athletic rim protecting big who can play with both love and pek. Dante is being used as the 3rd big in a 3 man rotation and that is not right. Dieng if his college game can translate to the nba level could be that guy with his shotblocking, passing, midrange game and athletic ability. But dieng is not ready and too raw at the moment.
