I like most of the suggestions. But I'd stay away from Jimmer, Marvin Williams and Caron Butler. Jimmer's size and position don't fit well with the Wolves and would undermine the roster-balancing that Flip undertook before the season started. Marvin is probably several dozen steps from his next long-term injury. And even when healthy, he's a 33% shooter from behind the arc. He's not a particularly good all-around or defensive player. Caron Butler's career 34% 3-point percentage is underwhelming and he's definitely on the downslope of his career at age 33.
My favorite bargain player would be MarShon Brooks. I'm with Cam in thinking Brooks would be a good, low-cost acquisition. I would think that the Celtics would swap him for Shved. My favorite option overall would be Courtney Lee for all the reasons previously given. I also like the Jason Thompson option as an additional big. Brandon Rush is an intriguing idea. If his knee is sound, he would really shore up our scoring off the bench. I would also like Turner, but as Cam pointed out, his value is high right now -- probably too high to get him with the assets we would have available.
I think that Hummel's emergence, combined with Budinger's eventual return, allows the Wolves to focus more on shoring up the SG position rather than either of the two forward positions. That's another reason I like the Lee, Brooks and Rush options best.
The most realistic? I would think that we have the assets to get Courtney Lee or MarShon Brooks. I think D-Will in a three-way of some kind could land Lee. As I mentioned above, I think Shved would be enough to get Brooks. I think D-Will would be enough to get Rush from Utah.
My prediction? I think we end up with Lee or Butler. Kahn loved Butler, but I'm not sure how Flip feels about him. Nevertheless, I suspect that Flip and Adelman would like to bring in a seasoned vet and Butler would fill that bill.

I would stay away from brooks and be disappointed if we added lee. Brooks wont make it here under adelman. Lee has been a bench warmer in boston the past 2 seasons. He lost his starting job last season and was a constant dnp-cd towards the end and the playoffs. He continues to ride the bench this season on a bad boston team.
Il rather have marvin williams than butler, both are injury concerns but i like williams length, athletecism and youth more. Both are vets too and marvin has playoff experience with the hawks before.

When Lee has played this season, he's been pretty damn good. I couldn't tell you why he's not getting minutes in Boston, but I do and will continue to believe that he'd be very solid and reliable for Minnesota behind K-Mart. I like almost every Wolves wing pairing that he'd be matched with due to his defense and shooting ability as well. Lee/Brewer, Lee/Budinger, Lee/Hummel and depending on the opposition's lineup even K-Mart/Lee. I have to think he's an Adelman guy, considering he averaged 21 minutes and 30 minutes respectively in his two years with Adelman.
This is the deal I'm waiting on. I think once Turiaf comes back we'll be fine in terms of having a big off the bench. Budinger should be back by January, plus I think Hummel will continue to be solid so SF isn't that big of an issue to me. Where my true worry comes in is backup PG and SG. Barea can create chaos and get hot, but I feel like we need a guy that can get others involved for that second unit. It's why I brought up in another thread that Steve Blake could be a possiblity. Behind K-Mart, though, who do we have? Barea can play off-ball here and there, Brewer can slide over here and there, but that's not ideal. Lee needs to be acquired in my opinion and D-Will would be the best piece to part with in doing so.

Camden, I agree that Barea erractic play does not suit this team. We need a playmaker coming off the bench with a consistent shot! Steve Blake would be ideal, but the Lakers need him with an ailing Steve Nash on the roster.
I like Lee but his contact is a little to high for what we need him for. But if that's all we can get for D Will then so be it. I really would hate to have to give away another 1st just to offload him like what happened with Wes Johnson.

It sounds (at least on a post on rotoworld) that Lee is very much available...as he has been discussed in a possible NYK/Boston Trade, that Boston was insisting he be included.

As somebody mentioned last week:
Shabazz and Williams for Marcus Thornton. (as much as I hate seeing shades of Rashad McCants back in a Wolves uniform) Thornton brings an unabashed gunner mentality to the team. He can score. I'm not sure what value Williams and Muhammad are offering this season. Or next.

I have said his name in the past. Guy can light it up any night and he's a pretty good shooter that would provide a nice shooting wing duo with Bud whenever he returns, but $8M this year and $8M next year is what's really ugly to me. Agreed about Williams. He needs to be dealt sooner than later. I think I'd still rather have Courtney Lee over Thornton however.

Boy, we're really just trying to remake those Adelman late Kings /Rockets teams huh? The ones that were treadmill teams.
If we trade Williams for a 6'11'' guy in Jason Thompson who can't block shots or Chuck Hayes who's really just a player /coach at this point, consider it official that we may never see a young draft pick on this team for a long time because this team can't develop them and has no time, patience, energy, or faith in them.

The problem with thornton aside from his contract is that he is similar to barea in both are gunners who can be hot and cold. Cant see how those 2 can coexist off the bench. He isnt much of a defender also.

Thornton's a better type of gunner I think. With Barea, he brings the ball down the court and ballhogs a ton of possessions. It's because of him that other players don't touch the ball. With Thornton, he doesn't walk the ball up. He's off ball, but when it gets passed to him, he has a strong propensity to get his shot up. So really, I think Barea might be the worse of the two just because of his position and how much he over-dribbles. Thornton just gets his shots up. Two different cases that MAYBE could coexist. Could be nice actually if one has a cold night and the other has a hot night... OR what are the chances that they both get hot on the same night? Too optimistic? :D
EDIT: If they both have an off night, it should feel just like a normal Barea cold night because the second unit won't produce anyways.
