There is this myth that Adelman hand-picked this roster. That's not true. Kahn and Flip are responsible for this roster. Adelman had no interest in acquiring Brewer or Luc. And Martin was Flip's choice after first pursuing Redick but losing him to the Clippers. Adelman may have given Kahn and Flip the green light on their acquisitions, but the responsibility for these player personnel decisions lies with Kahn and Flip.

As for Wes Johnson, Kahn had to give away a first round pick just to get a team to take him and the team that took him off our hands let him go as soon as his contract expired. Derrick has been horrible with the Kings. And does anyone really want Beasley back? Note that Adelman gave Wes significant minutes and allowed Wes every opportunity to prove himself. Same thing with Shved last season and the very beginning of this season. He gave Williams multiple opportunities as well. It's fashionable now to blame Adelman for all things wrong with the Wolves. But I continue to see a flawed roster and that's on Kahn and a Flip. At least we can be thankful to McHale for leaving us with Kevin Love.

Excellent post lip. i agree completely. Adelman can be criticized on some aspects of his coaching, but criticizing him on personnel moves and for players who some posters are fans of but not getting playing time is silly.

Thanks for bringing up that jj redick was flips first choice and we almost had him. I dont think our record changes with flip's first choice, it might be worse and im not high on martin.

On to the players we got rid of, well they deserved it. Like you mentioned, wes was given the whole season to prove something, he started all but 1 game that season. Same thing with dw, given multiple starts and started majority of the time love was out and cant even play over jason thomson in sac now. If you wonder why adelman dont think much of him, watch this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVbSiJKyzTI. Beasley got waived by the suns despite having 2yrs and 12m left on his contract.

We can thank mchale for love and pek. thank kahn for rubio. and thank flip for...?It remains to be seen but flip better step up.

I go through a very simple exercise to prove to myself that the problem with the 2013-4 T-Wolves is Adelman, not Flip. I compare the Wolves' roster to the Suns' roster. And when I do this, the Wolves roster is much, much better than the Suns roster. And everyone on this board agreed with this assessment at the start of this season. In the prediction thread on October 30, everyone that weighed in had the Wolves in the playoffs (or just out, in a couple cases), and the Suns last or second to last. And yet look at what the coaches have done with those rosters.

The difference in coaching style started in Summer League. Hornacek was so enthusiastic to work with his guys that he decided to coach the summer league team. Tired Rick made a token appearance in the gym before turning the reins over to his son so he could hit the slots. McDonough and his predecessor GMs gave Hornacek a roster that all of us projected to finish last; Flip et al gave Adelman a roster that, while not perfect, we saw as a much-improved playoff team. The difference: Hornacek coached his roster up...Adelman coached his roster down.

There are a lot of smart guys who know basketball on this board and we were right about the roster...we just didn't recognize how worn-out Adelman was. Love, Ricky, Pek, Martin and supporting cast is a roster anyone could coach to the playoffs...except Rick.

Better days ahead.

I couldn't disagree more lip. Adelmans influence has clearly had its hands all over the construction of this team. I don't think its fair to judge flip until he goes out and gets his guy in a coach and builds the roster his way without a hall of fame coach influencing him.

You're right LST. Tired Rick has lost this team and he can't wait to get out of here. Insert a guy like Horny and I agree we'd have a much better record.

And JJ Reddick? Really? People are blasting Flip for that? Didn't he miss the first 20 or so games?

Lip, you can say that Rick didn't want Luc, and that maybe true. What you can't say is that Rick wanted DW on this roster. Rick with Flip destroyed DW's value throughout the league, and then tried to sell fans on necessity of moving him for nothing.

We have a problem on this board where it is all or nothing on our top draft picks. I wasn't a Wes fan, hated the pick, but still realize that he had some value as a bench guy. He is better than shved or Bud as an overall player. He definitely got his opportunities and imo proved to be a role player off the bench. Beasley had too much baggage off the court, and I can understand letting him go. What is the "DW has been horrible with the kings" BS about. His efficiency blows away 90% of the wolves players! DW is a SF in SAC, which is why he isn't playing over JT. He clearly isn't better than Gay, so he is coming off the bench.

In minny, we will never have our pick of FA's. There is always going to be a more attractive destination, so we have to stock our team through the draft. Just because guys aren't allstar caliber, doesn't mean they don't have value. The problem with Rick is that he is completely inflexible with his offense. DW was never going to fit into his corner offense, just like it is a bad fit for Rubio. It should be pretty clear that Adelman can't deal with the flamboyant life style of many young NBA players. He is unable to look past, and develop the talent that lies within.
