We overpaid. Simple as that. If he didn't sign what are the odds he gets more on the open market.
I was more on board for 4/48.

I had him at about 12 per, and nice link LST. That article really makes a strong case in supporting this deal. His entertainment value and leadership is worth a couple more million to me.

Re: Rubio signed!
My only thing is that I don't think Rubio will be good enough in the next 4 years to be considered underpaid meaning he 's playing better than his 14 million dollar deal. I think he is much more likely to be considered overpaid for 2 years and considered as living up to the deal for 2 years. If this years Ricky was making $14 million, he'd be way overpaid. People have compared his deal to Curry and Lawson as being high, but I look at it from the perspective of their front offices having 2 really good players who are good enough to be underpaid. I get from the market standpoint why Rubio got 14, but good teams and GM's end up with good, underpaid players that allow them to get guys like Iggy when the timing and money is right because of an underpaid guy like Curry. People keep talking about in 2 years this deal will look good, but that means it probably won't for 2 years so do you really win the deal if half of it is good, but the other half is overpaying? 12 would have been where I thought he could eventually be considered underpaid. Also, he would not have received the max this summer with Rondo and Dragic on the market as UFA's and not a lot of teams having both cap space and a need for a PG.

I get what you are saying but remember Rubio's deal doesn't start till next year so this year no matter how you slice it we are getting a bargain in Rubio. People say we overpaid but if its based on the market Kemba Walker got 4 years 48 million. After that I knew the Wolves were going to have to pony up and find some ground with Rubio. Sure you don't do deals based on other teams overpaying but Rubio IMO is a lot better player than Walker so yeah. Guards in general are getting paid. Rubio's deal seems in line with what other guys have gotten paid.

Re: Rubio signed!
Were people really expecting for Minnesota to be able to sign an above average player to a deal that wasn't an overpay? Seriously?

Re: Rubio signed!
Money aside, I love that Ricky genuinely wants to be in Minnesota. Said it's second home. He wants to be the leader here. He mentioned how a lot of the guys want to win badly. Keeping him in MN was huge for this team's future. If nothing else, he won't be a regretful signing. Examples include: Brandon Jennings, Eric Gordon, Josh Smith, etc. Even if Ricky doesn't reach his ceiling, he'll still be productive. Also, he's going to have a big impact on the development of our prized prospects. That's a positive thing.
Last point: Not only did the Wolves show that they believe in Rubio, Rubio showed that he believes in this team's future. He didn't have to sign back here.

I agree with most of what Cam said but this is business. It is about dollars. It is in Rubio's interest to sign a deal more so then the team. Coming off his rookie deal he needed security to setup himself up financially for the future. Even if he doesn't sign odds are he is back her next year. It is just how it works. He was basically her 2 years no matter what. So Ricky didn't do us a favor. We did him favor.
Re: Rubio signed!
Again, all of ur arguments for signing him regardless of his play on the court smells a lot like Joe Mauer. The twins aren't winning and attendance for the twins is going down . Rubio has to become more than a singles hitter and be the reason the team is winning games. He couldn't do that with a top 5 player on the team.
