In any case, good move by GM Flip here. Now we don't have to hear from people here how great he was on the Dallas championship team.

No, if he is claimed off waivers, the claiming team assumes his full salary obligation. That would be the best case scenario for the Wolves. Of course the claiming team has to have the cap space or exception to absorb his salary...

So we can us our exception to calm someone? Oddly I can't remember any team using it like that.

Abe you make a good point after looking at the contract Dallas has it makes a little less sense and you missed Ellis and Gel Mekel that are backcourt guys with not much size. Ellis is the closest thing they have to a true sg. JJ and Nelson might work well next to Devin Harris that has more size and has struggled with shooting. JJ makes a little sense because he can play like a sg next to another player. So what if his D sucks against some SGs will struggle some guard him. It will be interesting to see who Dallas drops. Hoops hype shows Felton (i think he is injured again) has a player option for next year so it looks like Dallas would be eating over 4 million in cap space next year if they dumped him.

Bleed I don't see how a team could use a trade exception to pick up a waived player its only useful in a trade. I would think if there was that kind of interest in a player teams would explore that before just waiving them so thats when they can use the exception. I don't think you can do a trade after a guy is on waivers like in baseball. In this case even if the Mavs had a trade exception why use it to get JJ? You know you are gonna get him when the Wolves dump him and you only have to pay around 1 million or whatever instead of 4.5 million. For JJ this is a non-brainer stay on a building team and play every 3rd game or whatever or go back to Dallas and play for a contender where at worst you play a similar role and with no starting PG or backup sg cemented you could end up with lots of minutes.

The Mavericks have requested waivers on guard Gal Mekel.

Making room for JJ?

No question about it. That was the rumor, and it looks like the rumor is correct.

Edit: Yep, Dallas is going to sign him for the 8-year vet minimum...just hit hoopshype.

So it turned out Glen didn't have to open his checkbook afterall. JJ's buyout was for the vet min that Dallas is paying him which is probably double what GR3 is making this year. Glen got money out of the deal. Not that it matters cause its not my money but getting JJ to take a buyout seems pretty good all things considered.

Yeah, that was nice of Dallas to sign Barea, maybe that cash and the trade exception will help us in a trade later this year?

Wait where did you hear this? JJ wasn't claimed off waivers which means his contract had to get paid off by Glen. If you're right and JJ took the vet min as his buyout he would be pretty selfless considering he didn't have to agree to a buyout at all and had like 4M left on his deal.

If I was offered 900k and the chance of playing limited minutes for a good team or getting paid 4+M and not getting any playing time I know which option I would take.

I haven't seen the conditions of JJ's buyout but I'm assuming he got paid a good chunk of the money remaining on his contract.
