Pek trade ideas
Re: Pek trade ideas
Long who are you considering a SF? I don't think Hummel will be back, and other than that I see Bud and Shabazz. I think Cory should be backing up SG. I would like to see us move Bud and Pek and bring in Deng. We should cut some salary in the process and improve our D.
If this team has any chance to be competitive moving forward, we have to start limiting the contracts we hand out to role players. There are always cheaper options compared to guys like Bud, or Luc for that matter. I think the same is true with Pek. I am not saying Pek is a role player, but his weaknesses and inuries do limit what his true value is to this team.

well the thunder and heat are contenders because they have the two best players in the league right now. Spurs have the best coach of all time. Those are the reasons those teams are contenders, not because of the center position. You give the wolves durant or lebron on this team and they are contenders with Pek. I'd also bet that the thunder and heat would take Pek in a hearbeat over Anderson and Perkins. They'd probably win 70 games

I think SF is the natural position for Corey, Bud, Shabazz, Luc and Robbie. You're right that Hummel is not likely to be back, although I would like them to consider using him in a 3-point specialist role like several other teams do. The other four will all be on the payroll at least next year, and the only one that I see being able to play SG also is Bud...and I'm not very happy with him there. I don't want to move Shabazz, and the contracts of the other three make them difficult to move. So if we trade for Deng, we have a third of our roster ties up at one position...certainly not the kind of flexibility our new coach wants.
So I still dream of a Pek for starting SG trade, but I admit that options out there are limited. I'm moving toward the camp that Flip is going to have a difficult time finding value for Pek, and the 3-man rotation of Love, Dieng and Pek may end up being our best option.

I am with you. I hope we land a good SG in the draft. If we trade Pek. OKC is the team I would target and I would want Adams and Lamb as part of it. We would have to take back Perkins to make it work, but there could be worse things.

Using this logic, I would try to trade (sign and trade) JJ, and one or more of the SFs for an established wing. If keeping Love is the play, I would include the 13th pick if necessary.
Of course, when we WinTheLottery, this post is moot.
edit: I failed at quoting LST above. SORRY

Re: Pek trade ideas
Long -- I agree that our biggest need is a really good starting SG who can defend, handle the ball and score on dribble penetration. But I haven't seen or come up with a realistic deal that would land that sort of SG in exchange for Pek. I also agree that SF is the natural position for Brewer and Budinger. Both are pretty poor ball handlers and both are pretty one-dimensional. We are loaded with mediocre SFs. I would think that we will let Hummel go. I'd like to think we could get some value for Budinger. I'd like to keep Brewer. He's a gamer.

Have to find someone who can penetrate and score off the dribble. Is Deng really that guy? Is that guy really out there? Can Stauskas be that guy?
Re: Pek trade ideas
I always considered players positions based on who they can guard. I think Brewer is much better at SG only because he is too scrawny to guard most 3's. Brewer's offensive game is non existent so I don't factor it in to the equation. Bud is a 3 and no D guy at this point. He has zero chance of guarding a SG, and not much more of guarding a SF. Hummel can't guard anyone and shoots the 3 at a pretty low level so I don't see any reason to retain him. I see Luc as a tweener, and also not an everyday player.
We need a two player at the wing position, if only to give us more flexibility with one dimensional guys. Deng can fill that role for us. I think we can all see that Pek's value to the team overall isn't worth the 12 mil we are paying him. Moving Pek for Deng improves us two fold defensively with Deng being a much better defender at the 3 and Dieng providing the same at the C position. What little we lose offensively with Dieng, we would easily replace with Deng's ability to score inside and out. We might even be able to save a few bucks if we can package up a guy like Bud in the deal.
One other consideration with Pek is the injury issues. If he is missing 20-25 games right now due to repetitive injuries, we should only expect it to get worse.

SJM, I believe other GM's were laughing at us when we gave Pek a 5 year deal for 60 million. Yes, the injuries will get worse. If we can find a greater fool to trade with, I say do it. But I'm with Lip in thinking we won't be offered equal value in return, seeing how unreliable he is.
