I think the terms of Hoiberg's contract with ISU are all you need to determine what his intentions are. His 10-year deal requires a $2 million buyout if Fred takes another college coaching job (i.e. he will never go to another college), but only $500,000 if he left for a pro job. Hmmm...looks to me like Fred might have been looking at Adelman's age when he signed his extension with ISU, and wanted to keep his options open. Who knows, maybe there's even a handshake deal with Taylor...they're pretty close.

If I'm a family man with four kids I like to spend time with, I want to be hanging with them during the summers...not spending my summers sucking up to the moms of recruits. Especially if someone wants to give me an extra $2 million a year.

Fred spoke to my breakfast club several times, and I can tell you he's a smart guy. There's a reason he negotiated such a small buyout in the event he jumps to the Wolves.

LST - Great input. That does hint to having thought that if given a shot at an NBA job he would want an out. I don't see him coaching college anywhere else. I think this might be his job for the taking.

Fred won't come here. This isn't an enviable job. You'd be working for an idiot owner, a GM in Milt Newton who has yet to make a transaction, and a President in Flip who will always think he can do a better job than you. I haven't even gotten to the team yet.

You almost have to be in your world and block out everyone who tell you you can't possibly win in this environment. On top of that, you better hope you have a long leash with the team and fans to continue to overcome struggles.


Personally, I could see Flip hiring JB Bickerstaff just because he used to be here.

I can't agree with your assessment that this isn't an enviable job. wolf. You call Taylor an idiot, but I think he would be a dream owner for a coach or a GM. He seems content to stay in the background unlike many other owners, and has almost unlimited financial resources that he never seems reluctant to spend...it would be unfair to characterize him as tight in any way. I don't know what Newton's role is, but if Fred has been watching Dieng and Shabazz when they get a chance to play, he has to be impressed with what Flip did with the 9th pick in a weak draft. And he also has to know that Adelman didn't coach this roster well this year, and that he should be able to easily improve on Rick's record right away...and quick improvement is what earns coaches early contract extensions. Not to mention he has lived in Minneapolis before, and it's by far the closest NBA city to his home town and his parents' summer lake home. I can't think of an available NBA coaching job that would be more attractive to Fred than Minnesota.

Well If a minnesota "scoops" writer reports it, then it means its not happening. Not quite sure anything ever rumored by Zgoda or Doogie has ever come true
