Minott has a chance to be a good player, but he's currently a great example of the shiny new thing. Not all that glitters during mop up duty and limited minutes is gold.

I see the logic to letting Prince go as a way to help pave the way for keeping Naz and NAW. But I still don’t see that happening. Prince provides the two things TC kept talking about as critical characteristics for the team - IQ and maturity. Prince might be the most mature player on the team. He’s actually on a reasonable deal - only one year left at about half the MLE. He’s a good trade asset, so maybe they’ll trade him to a team like Orlando with cap room in return for a future draft pick. But I don’t see them letting him walk. The deadline to release Price is COB June 28, after which his contract becomes guaranteed.

Yes, Minott’s a shiny new thing. But it was TC who mentioned Minott along with Moore as two picks from last year they like and who be believes should get more of an opportunity to play next season. I’m not impressed by Moore at all, but he was a late bloomer in college so perhaps he’ll be a late bloomer in the NBA. As for Minott, Larry Brown said he would have been a lottery pick in a year or two. He’s athletically gifted with terrific length and a tremendous motor. I still love his potential, but I acknowledge that it’s still potential.

I believe Connelly’s quote about those guys was something like we expect them to take a step forward but we don’t know what that step looks like. That’s a wise measured approach for a team that’s looking to win games.

Minott's college, G-League, and NBA stats on a per 36 minute basis:
College:
Shooting (FG%/3PT%/FT%) - .522/.143/.754
Do shit stats - 16.2 pts - 9.4 reb - 2.2 ast - 2.3 to - 2.0 stl - 1.6 blk
G-League (combined showcase and regular season, which was 20 games)
Shooting - .541/.362/.75
Do shit - 21.4 pts - 8.9 reb - 2.6 ast - 2.2 to - 1.0 stl - 1.6 blk
NBA (very small sample size)
Shooting - .500/.333/1.00
Do shit - 17.2 pts - 9.4 reb - 1.9 ast - 1.1 to - 1.5 stl - 2.3 blk
What's surprising to me is the consistency across three very different levels of competition. Nothing jumps out as amazing here, but nothing jumps out as terrible either. Given his age, athleticism, room to add weight, and lack of overall playing experience (including college), it seems like there could be a ton more upside here. We'll see.

The Wolves moved very quick in free agency last year to nab Kyle Anderson. Might they do the same type thing this year for a player they want?
Jonny K commented that they are looking more for skill sets than position. I've gone thru all sorts of FAs to see who exhibits the skills they might be looking for. A name that jumped out to me was Josh Hart. Hart, NAW and NAZ might be doable under next year's luxury tax if they release JMac, Knight and Prince.
This assumes Hart declines his player option, and the Knicks don't offer more than MLE money, which they just might do. He played very well for them after the trade.

Josh Hart really played well for the Knicks so I don't see him leaving. Josh Richardson is a free agent and versatile player who could fit in the Wolves rotation. There was a time when Miami was reluctant to include him in a trade package for Butler to the Wolves though they later did to trade him to Philly as the main piece. Hart, Richardson, Shake Milton and Jevon Carter would all be updgrades to our rotation and hopefully we can get one of them.

I think what's promising is that he went from a very limited college role with good per minute numbers to a fairly prominent G-League starting role against better competition and he improved all of his shooting/scoring numbers. That's a good sign.
