I only saw the second half, so I can only comment on the reserves from an observation standpoint. I'm really high on our bench, and what I saw today did nothing to diminish my optimism. I wouldn't trade our seven rotation guys not in the starting lineup (SloMo, NAW, Naz, Shake, JMac, Brown and Garza) for any other group of 7 in the league. I was impressed with the way SloMo and Shake handled the ball. And I know I'm one of the biggest JMac bobos on the board, but he really looked like the pre-calf injury JMac to me. With his controlled floor game and disruptive defense, I'm not surprised he was a +8 in his 11 minutes...that's what he does when he's healthy.

And how about the shot production from three of our bigs? KAT took 16 shots in 17 minutes, Naz 14 in 17 minutes, and Garza 13 in 11! This is still Ant's team, but a big part of our identity has to be how we punish other teams with our bigs. Nice to see.

Moore Jr. also lokked very good in limited minutes. Ryan, Miller and Minott...not so much.

Nice first win, especially without Ant.

Is there a way to rewatch the game?

NBA TV is showing replays. I’m recording tonight’s replay. They might have another tomorrow.

I typically think preseason games tell you very little, but one thing I noticed today was the form on NAW's jumper looked improved. In the short time I watched, he actually led with the right foot and didn't shoot across his body. And his defense looked great.

My game balls go to Rudy and NAW. The Wolves defense was so much better when Rudy was in the game, he provided excellent rim protection, had some dramatic swats and had an effective role on offense. NAW played well on both sides of the ball, hitting his threes and he helped keep Kyrie to a terrible shooting day.

Honorable mention goes to KAT and Conley. KAT played with good energy, and was much more than a spot up shooter, good cuts, engaged defensively, stuffed Grant Williams on inbound play and I didn't see the bad body language. Conley had team leading plus minus, got the offensive humming and was engaged on defense.

Note: Shake looked great offensively, hitting his first two threes off passes from Slomo, very good arc on those shots and his one miss didn't look bad. He also has some good drive moves to the rim. His first assist to KAT was nice as KAT cut to the basket. That said, he fouled too much on close outs, made a lazy pass to Naz that the defender jumped on and while he played sort of zone defense, he didn't provide help defense on a couple plays where his teammate got beat and Rudy was not in the game to protect rim. I really like Shake's offensive game, but his defense needs some refinement and I hope its mostly due to playing with new teammates and adjusting to a new system.

A Rudy-NAW-McDaniels trio on the floor is pretty damn elite defensively. Really think we can build on what was a top 10 defense last year with the addition of NAW and subtraction of Nowell.

Not sure Shake has ever been known as much of a defender?? I hope he's not Nowell-bad on that side of the court!

I finally watched the game replay.

The NAW we saw in the desert yesterday was the same NAW we saw in the playoffs last season and that’s really encouraging. Watching him was even more impressive than his stats. I love the way he moved the ball. He had some nice passes, shot well from behind the arc and played really well defensively. Shake looked really good on the offensive end. If Shake and NAW continue yesterday’s level of play into the regular season, we can feel pretty good about our bench.

KAT’s energy was fantastic and he played well on both ends. He looked like the KAT we saw two years ago when he had a terrific season and showed significant defensive improvement. But I actually think he looked a tad quicker on both ends yesterday. Importantly, I didn’t see him whine or commit any dumb fouls.

JMac also looks like the pre-calf injury version of himself - quick, pesky on defense and making players around him better on the offensive end. Rudy looked more like the pre-Wolves elite defender he was with Utah.

Troy Brown did not have impressive stats, but he impressed me with his quickness and how quickly he moved the ball. He seems to have a pretty good feel for the game. But his shot looked terrible.

Lip you pretty much nailed it in this summery.

I’ll add that NAW somehow just looks longer. I’m sure he hasn’t gotten bigger but he looks more like a wing than the sort of combo guard he actually can play as.

Like you I really liked how Brown moved defensively. It’s worth remembering he isn’t a volume shooter or scorer. The way he is going to get minutes is due to injury or if they need defense. There will be times they will want his solid game and defense over someone else…possibly Shake.
