Opening Warmup Act - Wolves at Wizards GDT
Re: Opening Warmup Act - Wolves at Wizards GDT
I just saw Newton got his first minutes with the Wolves!

Sure would be nice if he quit showing up the refs and learn to speak with them quietly. Then he might improve his chances of getting a call.

I didn’t watch the game but I was just looking at the box score, which has me very excited about Leonard Miller. He had 1 rebound in 1 minute of play. If we give him 30 minutes per game that’s 30 rebounds per game. Let’s get him into the starting lineup now!!

You nailed it, DN. There's a narrative on this board that Ant gets a "bad whistle". I don't know if that is true or not (Ant is 7th in the league in "and ones", so he is getting a lot of calls at the rim), but if we stipulate that it is, why does he get this bad whistle? The narrative seems to blame this bad whistle on the referees, but there isn't some conspiracy against our Wolves...this is on Ant. There are two things he can do to start getting more calls:
1) As you suggest, quit showing up the refs. They have a lot of pride in their work, and it pisses them off when players do this. Anyone who has ever refereed or umpired knows this...players who show you up don't get calls!
2) Learn to draw fouls, either by doing things at the rim that causes your defender to foul you, or by doing what some stars have built a career around...flopping!

A win is a win, right? But it's difficult to be satisfied with only 20 assists and 18 turnovers.
Re: Opening Warmup Act - Wolves at Wizards GDT
Washington is s really bad team, with rally young players that might be good in a few years. With that said, the entire team swats at the ball, which as Jaden and Naz still tell you, gets a foul call every time. Ant's drives were with purpose and Washington had no answer. Better teams have a better plan to corral and funnel Ant. I hope Ant has been learning from the past 40 games on how to combat these different defenses. It is the difference between him be voted as an alternate to the All-Star game, and being voted a starter, which would also increase the Wolves chances of MAKING the playoffs, let alone winning a series.

Ant driving and kicking to DDV is a beautiful thing!

It's a problem and it makes us realize why Jordan McLaughlin was so damn effective with us. All he had to do was move the ball, don't turn it over, and be a pest on defense.
While DDV at PG has been an upgrade to Conley as the starter, it's still not ideal. Ant, Randle, NAW, and DDV have all proven that they are incapable of maintaining an assist to TO ratio of greater than 2:1, which to me is sort of the baseline level you need to be at to play the role of PG (or point forward like Doncic or point center like Jokic, etc.).
