It's a COMPLETELY different situation, but I really hope this guy isn't another Tsuyoshi Nishioka. I had high hopes only to be burned.

Let's hope this guy is more of the Jose Abreu type.

I drank the Nishioka kool aid too and was thoroughly disappointed. But yeah, this one feels different. I don't remember the LA's and NY's in the bidding for Nishioka like they were for Park. BTW, nice job by Terry Ryan...he won the bid, but not by much. Exactly what you want to see from your GM.

How much he costs is still a big unknown. Phil Miller wrote this morning in the Star Trib that he will want a multi-year deal, and is estimating $5-10 million per year.

I get the company but to me Nishi failing as bad as he did was probably more fluke than something to expect from another player from an overseas league. At least he flamed out really bad so both parties could move on instead of dragging out hope.

Still have my jersey T-shirt of Nishi #never forget
My guess is he will get around what Kang got 4-5 years 10-11mil per season. Aka Tori money

I am trying to understand who he fits in here. Can he play RF?

He's a first baseman, bleed, and apparently a good one. But he'll be DHing most of the time for us. Sano is playing the OF this winter and will likely join Buxton and Rosario there.

I'll say it again if Josh Willingham can play left field for years at the major league level. Sano will be able to at least play LF. My guess is Rosario goes to RF because of his cannon.

Delmon Young was pretty terrible out there also.

I think you're way high, jester. Kang actually only gets around $3 million a year, so I'm guessing Park gets $5-6 million for about 4 years. He's in town now and said yesterday he's fine with DHing, although he would prefer to play in the field. Terry Ryan confirmed that he will be the DH once he adjusts to ML pitching, and Sano will be moving to LF.

Yep, Kang gets between $3 mil and $4 mil per season, so $5-6 mil for Park seems reasonable. Hopefully, they'll leave Sano in LF even on Plouffe/Mauer rest days... let Park play some backup 1B to satisfy his desire for time on the field.
