We probably have to over pay, but over paying someone like Sefolosha is not going to break the bank. Drew listed Sefolosha, Tucker and Tony Allen as reasonable targets back on page one. Any one of them would be a solid addition, but I like Thabo the best.

Yup. Thabo, Tucker, Allen, Iggy, and Covington (Philly sign and trade?) all seem like guys you can stick out there as starting wing defenders. Allen might be the weakest of the bunch since he is more of a SG and is the worst shooter of the bunch.

Ingles to me is the best (while still being realistic) all-around target. He's may be not as good defensively as those other guys, but he's very solid. He also is a good ball handler and a better 3-point shooter than any of the guys above. He'd be one of my top targets from a restricted free agency perspective.

I love the idea of a guy like Thabo on defense. The issue I see is that we also are expecting the famed "3 & D" from a guy like this. Problem is.....he isn't a very good 3 point shooter over his career. Career average of 34% puts him as the 5th or 6th best 3 point shooter on a Wolves team that is considered pretty poor in this area. If we pay a guy large money for this specified skillset, he better be good at the whole "3 & D" thing. Love the guy for $6-7MM per....but the reality is he will probably cost us $12MM per. Is that worth it???? Maybe....somebody sell me....

Well, what other options would you suggest? Finding a guy that is elite at both wing defense and hitting the 3-ball is damn near impossible. So we need to tilt in one direction or the other. Thabo is an excellent wing defender and at least passable as a shooter. Same with Tucker. Same with Covington. Then you have guys like Roberson who is a terrible shooter, but probably an even better defender than Thabo. Ingles is an excellent 3-point shooter and good, but not great, wing defender. Korver is elite with the 3-ball, but not very good defender. Tradeoffs abound.

We have money to spend....we can't let perfection be the enemy of the good.

Hawks GM guy had this to say about Paul Millsap

"We are going to make Paul our best offer," Schlenk said this week. "Will he have better offers? I don't know. Do we want to keep Paul? Sure. I said last week, if you are building a team with all the things I've said, Paul checks all those boxes. We'd like to have him. The reality is, he might get better offers than we can make him."

That makes it seem like Millsap won't get max in Atlanta. This could be the glimmer of hope Minnesota needs to get a serious run at him. We'll see if they would offer him the max

What about Tony Snell?

GOOD:
- 3 and D guy who is coming off his best season and shot 40.6% on three pointers.
- Has played on defensive-oriented teams, including for Tom Thibodeau
- Doesn't demand touches.
- Playoff experience. Rotation guy during 2 runs in Chicago... starters (30+ mpg) with Bucks last season.
- Still relatively young... (improving?)... at 25.

BAD:
- Woefully inconsistent his first 3 seasons, failing to keep starting role, even rotation role, at times.
- Doesn't seem to be a "do stuff" kind of player.
- Contract year anomaly?
- Price. Milwaukee wants to keep him. Heard Woj say price tag might be around $50M for 4 years.

[Note: Is this the first offseason where Courtney Lee won't populate our forums as a potential target?]

I left off many restricted players who I assume will get resigned with their current club. Snell is such a player. I do like him though.

just as I suspected! Boston and Miami don't want him so we are now the frontrunners

On the Vertical podcast with Mannix Schlenk said the main thing they wanted to do was keep from having bad contracts. So it's pretty clear they aren't going to offer crazy money to Millsap (and maybe to Hardaway also) and that's a good thing for that franchise. The question becomes what kind of money will teams be willing to offer and for how long? I don't think the Wolves will offer a 4 year deal and some other team might. I wouldn't sign Millsap for the kind of money and length of contract I think he will get even if it isn't the max and I have been a Millsap fan for years. I don't think he ends up here.
