I'll add that I thought it was lunacy to give Teague that contract last summer. I doubt there was another team in the League willing to pay him that much guaranteed for 3 years. It's just one of many decisions on my list of Thibodeau blunders as PBO.

A good team that already has a couple stars locked in may just need an average starting vet PG like Teague.

As you said, Teague is an average PG and there's no upside in his game at his age. So I don't see any team paying Teague more than around $8M per year on a multi-year deal. At that amount, it would take almost three contract years to equal the $19 million he's owed next year under his current contract. Then consider the time value of money. If I were his agent, I'd strongly advise Teague not to opt out. He can always get a multi-year $5-8 million per year deal the following season and he'd already have $19 million in the bank. The only way I see him even considering opting out is if we don't play him this season to the point where he opts out in frustration next summer.

$8M per year for Teague would be an absurd bargain. A solid NBA starting vet PG is worth at least $12-15M per year. I think he could quite easily find something that pays him this salary for 3 or 4 years.

I realize Teague is not the greatest fit for our squad. He generally prefers to penetrate, which is tough to do when you don't have any other shooters on the perimeter, thus things get mucked up and ugly. But I don't think that has diminished his reputation or value throughout the league in general. Plus he's been pretty durable.

Yeah Collison got 10 million for 2 years so there is no way Teague won't get at least that. If this team isn't going anywhere and/or the team has another option whether it's Tyus or a possible draft pick Teague could want out. There are a number of ways that could happen.

1. He straight up opts our ala Crawford. I don't think this is impossible although not the most likely one. Like it's been suggested he might take a longer term deal with less money to go somewhere else.

2. Trade. There is always a team that wants a solid vet to help their roster take the next step. The Kings have been a team that do these types of deals all the time. The Jazz gave up a 1st round pick for 2 years of Rubio. The Suns would like take Teague right now if we wanted to just dump him for expirings. It will be interesting what the PG market looks like when we get there.

3. Opt in and take a buyout. This has a wide variance of how much money the Wolves would pay out. Obviously Teague would likely be willing to take the vet min chunk out of his deal and if he knew there were teams out there willing to give him the full mid level he might take an even bigger chunk and still get to do a bit of double dipping. Then you can look at whether you eat the contract money that's left or you waive and stretch him.

So there are ways that Teague can move on some more palatable for the Wolves than others. Trading Teague COULD even bring back a small asset or maybe even a flyer on a young player. I'm honestly not worried about Teague next year assuming he stays realitvely healthy. There is also a chance it's not the worst thing in the world if he opts in and stays here. We don't really know how this season will pay out and who the coach will be at some point.

There are a couple teams still without a PG somehow that could use Teague so I would bet he gets around 12-15 to start somewhere else. Extrapolate that over 3-4 years and that's worth way more than his option. He's still a solid PG that does a little bit of everything on offense without being great at one thing.

How about him and Patton to Chicago for Dunn, Levine, and Maarkonen?

You really want to see defense optional come to life don't you? We already suck on defense so why not dream about a defensive unit that would be one of the worst in the history of basketball?

Not understanding your point, considering Teague may well be the worst defensive PG in the league.

Wow, this is so plausible.

I kid, I kid.

Yeah its a 4 team trade, doesn't happen often. But its much more plausible than all these trades being thrown around here expecting miami to give up 2-4 of their best longterm assets in jrich, Winslow, bam, picks + filler.
