Let's recap what Hennigan has done for the Magic...

Oladipo + Harris + Ibaka + Ilyasova + 11th pick ...... for ....... Terrence Ross + 2(x)th pick

[Note: As a bonus, the Magic picked up Biyombo and Jeff Green this offseason... and are paying them $32M this season.]

Total math about Magic trades is not exactly like you wrote. They got Ilyasova in Harris trade and Ibaka in trade for Oladipo and 11th pick.

So overall net effect of those three trades has been:

Harris, 11th pick and Oladipo for Terrence Ross, 2(x)th pick in next draft and half of season from Ilyasova, Jenings and Ibaka. Still a really terrible combined result of three last trades.

Offensively, he occupies too much of the paint because he doesn't have to be guarded outside of 10 feet. That takes away space for both KAT and Wiggins, both of whom like to go to work in the paint.

Defensively, while I think his mere physical presence is helpful, I question how good he is guarding in space. He seems like the kind of guy we'd end up sitting in every close game since we'd want a much more mobile 4 and KAT would have to move to 5. Not to mention the free throws.....

And I'm still not too keen on Reggie Jackson, although he makes a little more sense now that LaVine is out.

I don't like Drummond either. He is big and strong and great rebounder but you have to question his defensive impact since after Reggie Jackson, Drummond has the worst defensive rating in whole Detroit team.

He would certainly help against big and strong centers but I think he won't be good at helping in pick and roll plays and when opponent plays center that can shoot three pointers (like Dallas with Dirk last night), he is pretty much worthless in defensive end and doesn't have good enough post up game to make opponent to pay about defending him with power forwards.

Drummond is an enigma. He should be a dominant defender but he is not. It has a lot to do with the fact that he chases rebounds. He would rather get himself into a rebounding position than commiting fully to protecting the rim. He is an elite rebounder no question. And rebounding helps the defense as well but he could do a lot more if he commits to protecting the rim and anchoring the defense like he could. It could be coaching though so we dont know for sure.

Yes. I know. A bit disingenuous, but it's more fun to point it out like I did. Bottom line... the Magic got less than what nearly anybody thought they could in both deals.

22 year old Tobias Harris for Brandon Jennings and Ersan Ilyasova:
- Jennings was coming off an Achilles injury, something few guys have done. Gone after 1/2 season.
- Ilyasova also played 1/2 season. He was the largely forgotten throw-in to land Ibaka.
--- So instead of getting a draft pick for Harris like everybody thought... they got 1/2 seasons from two guys who didn't help at all.

Oladipo + Ilyasova + 11th pick for Serge Ibaka.
- got 1/2 season from Serge Ibaka and created a logjam up front that messed with the team's most promising player, Gordon.
--- And doubled up on not getting a draft pick for Harris by giving up the 11th pick. Team got worse again with Ibaka.

For added fun...

- Ibaka
- Harris
- Oladipo
- Ilyasova
- Sabonis (11th pick)

All of them are now starters on teams better than the Magic.

Abe - Ouch, but true.

Who would be the perfect front court player next to Towns?

Anthony Davis would be great. :-)
Drummond would be nice.
On the opposite end of the spectrum a AK47 type player would work too. Would an Aaron Gordon type work?

Drummond forces the Wolves to play a certain way. I dig the idea of the Wolves embracing the new era with Towns at the 5. It forces other teams to play the way the Wolves want them to more often via mismatches.

I think a Millsap or Ibaka type would be a ton of fun.

Yeah, I tend to lean toward being able to field a squad where KAT is the 5 and then we have four other guys that can defend in space, close out on shooters, switch, etc. That's not to say we always start games that way, as I'm not opposed to the 2-bigs strategy up front. But if we were to go spend some serious coin for another front line guy, it has to be someone that can guard in space and also shoot. Milsap really fits that bill.

32 year old players like Milsap are so risky when you talk about the $$ it would take to sign and keep them. Last years board favorite Luol Deng is a perfect example of this. So many of these guys start missing large chunks of the season or their performance declines or both. With where our team is at, I'd say no to any big money guy over the age of 30. It's fine to bring in older role players who aren't going to cost you a ton, but that isn't Milsap. Not saying he wouldn't be good fit given his current performance, but the risk would keep me away. A bad signing of an aging player could ruin your rebuild.

Fair enough. That makes sense. For example, there are reports that Ibaka is already struggling to guard in space while in Orlando. And he's not even 30 yet.

So that leaves the Wolves searching for the NEXT generation of Ibaka/Millsap.

Are there any young guys nearing restricted free agency on the horizon or will the Wolves have to find one and develop him in the role?
