This is the first domino we've all been for to fall! From here on out it will be a cascade of trades that grip the NBA fanbase and intelligentsia! And the Wolves will probably do.....nothing.
The problem with trading McDaniels is the Wolves don't have a SF sized guy like him that I feel confident in. NAW is a good player but he doesn't have the length that McDaniels has. Unless the Wolves acquired a bigger wing/combo forward It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to move McDaniels. I mean is Randle or Naz guarding the big SFs?Volans19 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 11:40 am What is the board consensus on trading McDaniels?
I am totally opposed to it, he and Ant have great chemistry. I understand why people get frustrated with his lack of improvement in regards to fouling and efficiency. However his defensive tenacity is a huge asset, his postseason defensive run last year will forever be one of my favorite Wolves memories.
If TC trades him away for a Fox rental I will have a hard time understanding his vision for this team. He's built a defensive culture here, we are stuck with Rudy for a few more years, McDaniels just makes so much more sense.
Anyways, my hope for the deadline is moving off Randle and keeping the Detroit pick. I feel if Finch gives our young guys (Dillingham, Minott, Clark, and TSJ) more run we have all the pieces we need to succeed.
The only reason I want to move off Randle is so we can resign Naz and NAW
Well, there's Minott!Monster wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 1:31 pmThe problem with trading McDaniels is the Wolves don't have a SF sized guy like him that I feel confident in. I think it's just seeing the ball go through the hoop a couple times. Then it frees him up to just shoot. No need to think or worry. Let it fly and trust your practice and ability.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 1:46 pmWell, there's Minott!Monster wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 1:31 pmThe problem with trading McDaniels is the Wolves don't have a SF sized guy like him that I feel confident in. To answer Volans question, I think as long as McDaniels was trying to be a strictly 3 & D perimeter player for the Wolves he was overpaid and definitely trade material. A modern day offense can't have a guy that stands in the corner and miss 65-70% of his open 3s from there without doing much else.
But fortunately he's gone back to being more of an all-around basketball player and shown an ability to play some PF and even small-ball Center. I think that makes him a ton more valuable, and interestingly, his 3-point accuracy has improved since not constraining himself to such a narrow role. Sometimes letting go and just ballin' frees everything else up!
Devin Vassell signed for a very similar contract as McDaniels (I think Vassell might have gotten slightly more) would you value his offensive ability more than McDaniels defensive ability?Q-is-here wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 1:46 pmWell, there's Minott!Monster wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 1:31 pmThe problem with trading McDaniels is the Wolves don't have a SF sized guy like him that I feel confident in. I would have answered yes to the Vassell question earlier in the season, but like I said, Jaden has made some fairly dramatic improvements of late and hopefully continues his better all-around play. Speaking of Vassell, he sort of plateaued like Jaden did there for a while and now comes off the bench, so yeah, at this point Jaden is > Vassell.Volans19 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 4:46 pmDevin Vassell signed for a very similar contract as McDaniels (I think Vassell might have gotten slightly more) would you value his offensive ability more than McDaniels defensive ability?Q-is-here wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 1:46 pmWell, there's Minott!Monster wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 1:31 pm

In today's NBA I think McDaniels is fairly paid
I’m with you, Volans. Trading McDaniels along with other assets for Fox would be a colossal blunder in my view. Moving up to draft Dilly last season was a terrific move by TC as was his decision to draft TSJ. Clark, Minott and Miller were also very good picks. Ant is a perennial all-star to keeps improving and has great chemistry with Jaden. And Jaden is an elite defender who is starting to gel as an offensive player and rebounder.Volans19 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 01, 2025 11:40 am What is the board consensus on trading McDaniels?

You have that backwards, Lip. It wasn't because of the Rudy trade we had to trade KAT. It was because the CBA allowed for KAT getting a super max deal, making him way over paid, and forcing the Wolves to trade him at some point during the duration of his contract.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 02, 2025 2:34 amI’m with you, Volans. TC went for the big score when he traded for Rudy. I still think that move was a mistake. He should have kept Kessler and made other moves to strengthen what was already a very good, up-and-coming team. As it turns out, because of the
Rudy deal we had to give up KAT and now we’re struggling for the second time in the three seasons since Rudy has been here. TC should have learned from that experience. Don’t go for the big score in the trade market. TC’s never been good at trades; his strength has always been the draft. Instead of trading for Fox, keep and develop Dilly as our eventual starting PG. Get TSJ some meaningful playing time down the stretch this season when he gets back from his injury. Keep giving Clark some meaningful minutes. Re-sign Naz and possibly NAW in the off season. And trade Randle either by the Feb. 6 deadline or in the off season, which will allow the Wolves to re-sign Naz and get the team’s financial house in order.
