The Diamondbacks are nearing a five-year deal that will bring free agent left-hander Madison Bumgarner to Arizona, reports ESPN's Jeff Passan. While the precise value of the contract remains unknown, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports that the deal will pay Bumgarner between $80MM and $90MM.

Consider me highly disappointed in the Twins' management.

5 for 85 what a joke

Yeah, I don't really want to see anyone defending the front office and ownership after this. 5/85 is a very fair deal for Bumgarner and Minnesota will say the usual "we got outbid" bullshit.

Honestly anything less than 100 million for 5 years especially with the market the way it was is upsetting.

It does sound like that was his top spot and I do logically have to wonder if he took less money to sign there. I mean Wheeler got what 23 million more? No way in my mind he is that much better.

That is crazy good signing at that point. It looks like 15 Million of it is deferred too. How did we not offer more? Ugh

What's the deferred money and how can I get some?

I was wondering the same thing. Isn't Bobby Bonilla still getting deferred money from the Mets?

So listening to Gleeman and the geek Podcast on Sunday it sounds like wheeler agent told the twins to not even bother. Apparently Wheeler fiancée wanted to live in the east coast and he reportedly turned down a 5 for 125 million dollar offer from the white Sox.

I'm assuming this is what happened and MadBum case as well. I have a hard time believing he couldn't get a better deal.

Even if all that is true, and I'm not saying it isn't, Twins fans are left feeling a lot different than White Sox fans for the simple fact that Chicago's front office made Zack Wheeler turn them down after an aggressive offer. Minnesota didn't even go that far.

Sounds like Bumgarner wanted more for a team playing in a higher-tax state.

Yeah I'm really upset about us not getting the "We tried harder but we didn't get him trophy" ;) White Sox fans can dry their tears with their new Grandal jerseys and look at their new trophy...and their awesome starting Pitcher Giolito.

Something to consider...what if the White Sox leaked And offered 125 million for Wheeler Basically so they looked like they tried harder? It wouldn't be the first time something that had happened. And don't get me wrong I'm not putting lipstick on a pig just thinking out loud a bit.

We did get Romo back for 5 million and an option for next year. Sounds good to me.
