The role-playing guard Minnesota actually needs will likely have to be acquired mid-season at the deadline or signed next summer using the mid-level exception as they don't typically come cheap. I don't think they're getting that player this summer considering who's already been acquired via trade and free agency.

Forbes might be able to adequately fill the Beasley void - albeit with less rebounding and fast-break ability. But we still have the Beverley void to fill - a dogged tough on-ball defender who can also hit threes and do other stuff. Ok, we'll probably have to forget the other stuff, but we need they dogged defender who, unlike Okogie, can hit perimeter shots, score and maybe even handle the ball a little.

I want to live in Lip's world of optimism. :) Gary Payton II just got paid almost 30 million for what you just described. We should be looking for that type of guy or the next Torrey Craig.

Lol. I always thought you were the optimist, Monster. If you means the Wolves will have to settle for what they can get, then I'll admit you're right. :)

We balance each other out I think! :) I always like to joke with my boss and praise her when she has the optimistic take on a situation for one of the people we are discussing on my caseload. It's not that she is a negative person far from it she just has nearly 30 years of experience to draw on. One of her favorite lines is "NOBODY saw that coming..."

I had asked someone (Kek?) if the 2nd year of Prince's contract was guaranteed. Today, Dane indicates it is not which is really good news. So the question I ask of the cap experts: With DLO's and Prince's salaries coming off after the season, can we afford a max guy under the cap? I realize it will put us way into the tax, just wondering if ownership was so inclined, could we do this next offseason?

Kek answered your question the other day, but yeah that's a fine detail on Taurean Prince's deal.

If you're asking whether or not the Timberwolves will have max salary space for a free agent next summer, the short answer is no. They no longer have Patrick Beverley and Malik Beasley as expiring deals and instead have Rudy Gobert's contract to account for. They also have Kyle Anderson's salary on the books for next year.

Wolves would have approx. 22 million in cap space if they let Dlo and Prince walk. (With the assumption they are bringing back Jmac, Mcdaniels and Ant all have team options). With 7 of the 15 roster spots filled.

So they won't have max cap space but a decent amount of money to work with but I don't know if they will find better players then Dlo and Prince for 22 million. I might be wrong there but the projected FA class is pretty weak.

You also have to account for salaries for 14 players on the roster. If it's 22 million without accounting for vet min salaries for the other open roster spots to get to 14 then that cap space goes away pretty fast.

More contract details on Prince's contract. It's not a massive amount of difference but it could be a somewhat meaningful difference depending on what the Wolves end up doing signing various players compared to what was reported.

https://mobile.twitter.com/DaneMooreNBA/status/1544363570896556032

With Year 2 of Taurean Prince's deal being fully non-guaranteed and with $870k of unlikely annual bonuses (and $195k of likely bonuses), the cap hit for Prince is just $7,295,000 in 2022-23.

2022-23: $7.295M
2023-24: $7.65M non-guaranteed

Eric Bledsoe was waived today. Would like the wolves to go after him. He is a little washed but as a 3rd pg possibly 2nd think he would be valuable

I forgot about Bleadsoe. He would be a pretty good addition. I think he will have a solid amount of interest around the league so idk if we will be able to add him or not espcially for the vet min. He isn't a guy you would pencil in as a solid starting PG anymore but he has had some success playing as a SG too and I believe he is an above average defender.
