Iowa lost again tonight, but Jaylen Clark scored 32 points on only 17 shot attempts, making 6-9 3-pointers. He also had 7 boards, 5 steals, 2 assists, and just 1 turnover.
The reason this is noteworthy is because Clark is already an NBA level plus defender, but is raw offensively. With Nix gone and Miller with the main team, Clark now has more of an opportunity to take on a scoring role in Iowa. He's done so with mixed success so far, but tonight was a breakthrough.
Iowa Wolves
Re: Iowa Wolves
Thanks for the info. If Clark can develop an NBA-caliber offensive game, the outlook for Wolves 2.0 starts to look a lot brighter. I’m still not sure Miller has the IQ or intensity to be a good NBA player. But I’m already sold on Minott and have a lot of confidence in TSJ and Dilly. Clark is the wild card for me.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Sat Jan 04, 2025 10:10 pm Iowa lost again tonight, but Jaylen Clark scored 32 points on only 17 shot attempts, making 6-9 3-pointers. Re: Iowa Wolves
Shannon was sent down to Iowa for their game. Looks like he dominated with 47 points!

Re: Iowa Wolves
I’ve been calling for TSJ to get meaningful minutes our NBA Wolves. I’m bullish on Dilly but even more bullish on TSJ. Moreover, TSJ is NBA ready right now in my view. I’m thinking the Wolves should consider trading NAW by the February trade deadline. I really like NAW, but it will be hard to re-sign him and we could probably a really nice return for him. Trading NAW would possibly open up room for TSJ to get some minutes.60WinTim wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 11:04 pm Shannon was sent down to Iowa for their game. Looks like he dominated with 47 points!

Re: Iowa Wolves
Interesting thought, Lip...I also love NAW, but I share your thought that Shannon is likely ready to contribute. So athletic and also capable defensively, although I don't know much about his shot. My honey and I were unhappy when he didn't see the court last night in the final 4 minutes...now we know why!Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 11:34 pmI’ve been calling for TSJ to get meaningful minutes our NBA Wolves. Re: Iowa Wolves
In three games in Iowa he's averaging 38 PPG on 52%/47%/95% shooting. He's also a walking free throw machine. Oh, and he can defend. Can you guys imagine a future where he and Ant are on the wings and attacking the paint surrounded by a bunch of shooters in a 5-out offense?FNG wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 8:00 amInteresting thought, Lip...I also love NAW, but I share your thought that Shannon is likely ready to contribute. As for somehow accommodating all these wings on our roster, this is where I think letting Randle go could have knock-on effect that modernizes our team to where we play one big, three wings, and one PG more often.
But yeah, hard to find enough playing time for Shannon if Ant, DDV, NAW, Jaden, and Minott are all still on the roster next year even if we do play Jaden and Minott more at the 4.

Re: Iowa Wolves
Anyone watch these last two games, how did Newton look?
Re: Iowa Wolves
I haven't been watching games but looking at basic stats and stuff it seems like to me NAW might be one of the most valuable players for this season's team on the roster. I get the idea of cashing in on his value but it might be pretty hard to move him at this point.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 9:09 amIn three games in Iowa he's averaging 38 PPG on 52%/47%/95% shooting. The Wolves struggles and relatively good health has kept some guys from getting chances. I think most thought Garza would get more of an opportunity to play this season but so far nope.
Re: Iowa Wolves
Monster - I share. Your view of NAW as one of this team’s most valuable players. Trading him now would be selling high and cashing in on that value as you noted. There’s a long line of NBA teams that would love to have NAW and give up a lot to get him. Moreover, because the Wolves need more scoring, we might be better off in the long run with TSJ filling NAW’s role off the bench - assuming TSJ is the player I think he is.Monster wrote: ↑Fri Jan 10, 2025 2:32 pmI haven't been watching games but looking at basic stats and stuff it seems like to me NAW might be one of the most valuable players for this season's team on the roster. Re: Iowa Wolves
I think may be.asking a lot of a rookie. NAW might be sort of a glue guy in the way Kyle Anderson was (different strengths obviously) for 2 years in some ways probably keeping the team afloat helping in a a few ways despite having some flaws.Lipoli390 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 11, 2025 12:55 amMonster - I share. What do you expect to get for NAW? To me the other question is what kind of contract has NAW earned? Is he a full mid-level salary guy? What's the most you are willing to go? Apologies if this has all be discussed while I was away. At what point even if we could resign NAW regardless of other considerations is there an amount where we are like...yeah we love him and want to keep him but maybe that's too much it might not be a good value. I think he is clearly worth like 10 million but I'm not sure how much higher I go after that. It's hard to keep wrapping my mind around what salalries will look like with them going up an expected 10% each season for a few years.
