These West teams are trying to solidify their top 2's present and future.
OKC - SGA and JDub
Lakers - Luka and LeBron
Mavs - Davis and Irving
Suns - Booker and Durant
Grizzlies - Morant and JJJ
Nuggets - Jokic and Murray
Rockets - a smorgasbord of talent, but it looks like Sengun and Thompson are emerging as that.
Spurs- Wemby and Fox
Clippers- Kawhi and Harden
Wolves - Ant and...?????
You said "and future", yet the guys I highlighted in red are either old and/or injury prone. Are we really going to be worried about the two headed monster of Harden and Kawhi two or three years from now?
And of the other guys not highlighted in red, Ant is the third youngest of the bunch. There is still time and that question mark may actually be on the roster right now.
Present and future as in some teams have that today and some are setting up long term. We don't have either. All you did was highlight the teams near us in the standings
The ONLY person on this roster who stands a chance to be Ant's running mate is Dillingham and Finch will never fully embrace him because he doesn't fit the model of what he wants his PG's to look like.

Full trade:
Spurs: De'Aaron Fox, Jordan McLaughlin
Kings: Zach LaVine, Sidy Cissoko, three first round picks (2025 CHA, 2027 SAS, 2031 MIN), three second round picks (2025 CHI, 2028 DEN, 2028 own back)
Bulls: Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Kevin Huerter, their own 2025 pick via SAS
So the Kings seemed to make out really well in this deal. I guess the Bulls are planning to suck the rest of the season since they got their pick back?
Well, the pick was top 10 protected, so they have no more incentive to play poorly. In fact, the pressure is a bit off on the tanking to preserve the pick.
Bummer. I thought Golden State was one of the easier ways the Wolves could move Randle as part of a Jimmy Butler trade. Looks like that might be off the table. From Brian Windhorst:
The Heat’s Jimmy Butler has communicated to the Warriors that he’s unwilling to sign an extension there & therefore trade talks to send him to Golden State have ended for now, sources told ESPN.

Thanks for that info. They really didn't get a whole lot for Lavine although they are probably betting Heuter remembers how to make 3's and that gives him some value. Collins could give them someone to play minutes the rest of the season if they move Vuc. They get to try out Trey Jones I guess.
Wait...I didn't realize Zach Collins was slated to make 18 million next season!?!!

It would be kinda funny if this was the time Butler overplays his hand and has to settle for way less money this off-season because of it. Probbaly won't happen though but it would be highly amusing.

Ah, you were distinguishing between teams, got it.
Do you honestly think Finch is the guy standing between Dillingham and potentially being a #2 guy!? I'd say his 165 lbs. frame and just turning 20 are the main barriers for now. I doubt Finch, if he's even still our coach, is going to view and coach him the same way in two years as he does now. Players improve and evolve and NBA coaches generally want to keep their job.

I just think short term, he's always gonna look at Rob and be worried that as soon as he puts Rob in the other team's gonna pick on him and go on a 15-3 run, not realizing that TC drafted him because he trusts Finch to get more out of him defensively than making someone better offensively at this point.

Finch has as a short leash with the young guys because we are still in a win-now mode. But injuries have finally forced his hand to play him regularly. Whether that's 18 minutes or 25 minutes per night won't impact his development in my opinion.
The Wolves will be a first round exit team in the playoffs this season - assuming they get there. I think that’s been pretty clear for quite a while even though there have been moments when I and others thought this team might become something more. In spite of these bad recent losses and the overall failure this season, I’m liking some things we’ve seen lately. I love what we’re seeing from Jaden offensively and on the boards. I love what we saw from Naz tonight. He’s a uniquely gifted scorer. I’m intrigued by what we’re seen recently from Clark and I’m very happy with what we’ve seen from Dilly.
I’m unhappy with Minott’s regression over the past few weeks and disappointed in Garza’s poor showing the past two games. However, overall I see a number of bright spots. To build a contender around Ant and Jaden (Wolves 2.0), I’m convinced this organization has to get under the 2nd AND 1st aprons so our front office can effectively maneuver transactionally over the next couple years. I’d also like to see us amass some additional assets. To that end, I’d trade NAW by the deadline for future picks. He should have a lot of value to a contending team down the stretch as a cheap, tough defensive-minded guard who can shoot. I’m not holding my breath on a Randle deal this week, but I’d still love to see something happen that will provide the Wolves with substantial cap relief this summer and potentially a future pick.
I don’t have any specific NAW trade ideas in mind but I’m sure there are a number of good ones. I’d shop him and start a bidding war. I can see getting at least a future top 12 protected 1st round pick or two second round picks for NAW. I thought we’d be able to get a good deal for Randle by the deadline but that was before his groin injury. Hard to see how we can get anything decent for him now so we’ll have to wait until the summer.
