Jake Cave crushing it right now. It's only a matter of time before Jester wants Rosario traded away for a starting pitcher his offseason and Cave starting in the OF. :)
Hey this Sano guy looks good.
Lol your right :) but I did even think when Bleed asked about who would play left field they could put Cave in. Cave is what he is. A left hander with some decent pop who's can smash right handed pitching an a below average defender in the outfield. I was listening to Gleeman and he said he just doesn't get and me either. Why his defensive stats are so bad he has good speed and a decent enough arm but just lacks something you can't teach which is baseball instincts. Example he's misplayed the bounce off the right field wall 3 times this week.
Edit: also every time Jake Cave does something well I feel like hear a whisper from monster in my ear. I Told You So lol
Just to be clear pretty much every time I mention Cave and a positive its all in good fun. All of us were saying he wasn't good enough. a few weeks ago. Nobody here wants him to play badly.
I'm not sure Cave is a bad defensive outfielder but IMO his problem is he just plays too aggressively. He needs to iron him self out in the field...kinda like he did with his bat. He has made some pretty good plays on balls that were unlikely to be made. Marwin made a Cave like play the other day charging in and letting the ball get past him. Sometimes we forget Cave is 26 in his 2nd season and has played 141 MLB games. There is still a chance he actually puts it together more. I'm not planning on it but this latest stretch is encouraging (still small sample size) especially since he hasn't been getting regular (everyday) playing time. Good teams have guys like Cave step up and help out.
Nope like or not your the president of the Jake Cave Fan club :) lol
Jake Cave seems to have starter upside with 4th outfielder downside. He is young and cheap. I think we could roll with him next year in LF until someone comes up from the minors and takes his job. (Assuming Rosario is moved)
FWIW Souhan and Smalley had an interesting discussion about Berrios. Basically the fastball velocity (that wasn't their taking point) being lower is Berrios is throwing a 2 seamer (slower more spin) instead of a 4 seamer (more velocity) more. Smalley said Berrios likely has better control of the 2 seemer but he likes the higher velocity of the 4 seemer but the control has been more of a problem. He said that Berrios is working on some mechanical things right now and it's a process he is going through in season.
Souhan said the people that told him stuff about Sano being worrisome and fat and out of shape and not working hard (which he wrote and article about) are now saying Sano is doing everything right and working very hard and they are very pleased with him.
Buxton's rehab has been halted. Jake Cave gets more time to impress...that's the upside I guess. Really who else unless there is an injury would they send down?
Pineda with another good start. He has been pretty good with now 3 strait months of sub 4 era pitching.
Good to see the Twins get just enough against Gio to get the win.

If he played everyday like Mike Piazza he's putting up numbers a step below Mike Piazza best year. The problem is he plays only half the games.
Garver
GP 72 ABs 258 HR 23 OBP .338 OPS .919
Mike piazza best year
GP 152 ABs 626 HR 40 OBP 431 OPS .1040
Double Garver stats and you have Mike piazza in his prime season.
Garver as a catcher playing 152 games...Is unlikely even if you are playing him all over the place especially since he has had some injuries the previous years. Meanwhile its not like Castro is some slouch at the plate. If we were playing some guy that was basically an out when he was in the lineup that would be very different. Could Garver see more time? Sure I'd be up for him getting more but...the question is would he be hitting the way he would if he was seeing X amount more time? The Twins are being pretty strategic about when catchers catch based on matchups etc. We don't know how banged up various guys are. Hopefully Garver and Castro splitting time keeps them relatively healthy. It probably doesn't help that both guys down 2 months at the plate have been the same 2 months. I'd guess at this point the Twins have a solid chance get a comp pick from FA the way Castro is hitting this year. I said at the beginning of the year I thought this C position had a chance to be a surprising strength like it was 2 years ago. I undersold it. lol

This isn't a Castro thing. This is the need to find more ABs for Garver. Adrianza has played 19 games at first base this year. There's no reason why Garver couldn't have played those 19 games and Adrianza give a guy like polanco or Sano a day off.
The stupidest thing the twins do is play Sano at third and Adrianza at first. When Adrianza is superior defender at SS and 3rd in every metric over Sano but he's just alright at first base.
