John Collins apparently turn down Atlanta's $25M per year offer. He's obviously holding out for a max deal and I think it's pretty clear Atlanta won't give it to him. I believe the teams with cap room heading into the offseason have capped themselves out. So the table seems set for the Wolves to acquire him in a sign-and-trade. I just don't like the idea of adding Collins as a third max contract. That would give us two players who clearly aren't max-caliber. And I fear what Rosas would given up to get him. But that's where I think this thing is headed and it's why Rosas hasn't made any significant free agent moves thus far.

Need to wait until frenzy ends and pick up some scraps that will help. Not sure if that guy even exists, but holy smokes, a team could kill any future flexibility by jumping into fray right now.

All I have to say is.....Duncan Robinson......5 years - $90M. Or Gary Trent Jr.....3 years - $54M. What has happened to these owners brains? INSANE!!!!!

This is what I say like every year. Lol

Sam Amick is reporting the Hawks don't have any interest in dealing him. That could be a ploy but I kinda doubt it. They can be a win now team. He can hope for a Max deal but basically it's the Spurs and OKC that has money left to offer him.

Honestly I'm not sure what Rosas would have to offer to get Collins and I don't think he qualifies as a "Star" so if that's true McDaniels is off the table. I also don't think Rosas would be willing to pay Collins max money I certainly wouldn't plus give up good enough assets that Atlanta would be willing to deal him. Atlanta is in a good spot and they have made him a nice offer. There are reports from a couple days ago that Collins would sign for a 120 million dollar deal. Those weren't completely accurate but that's interesting.

Now let's also look at the market from the last 2 years. Guys like Fournier are getting nearly 20 million a year (J Grant got 20 million a year last year) why wouldn't Collins try for the max? Maybe Atlanta ups the offer a bit or maybe they do a player option for the 5th year or something like that. 25 million a year in 5 years might be not a huge amount of money so it might be a bit of a negative to be locked in that long but it's also guaranteed money. I'd put the idea of the Wolves acquiring Collins at like 5%. Besides they already got his teammate Nathan Knight. We don't need Collins. :)

This is why it's so important to have a really robust scouting and analytics department and a pipeline of picks and undrafted free agents flowing into the organization. If you can hit on 1 in 3 or 1 in 4 of these types of guys it allows you to avoid having to overpay for niche role players.

Then again, he's a decent floor raiser and maybe the Bulls are happy with just making the playoffs. They'll have a lot invested in that backcourt. Interestingly, LaVine will be the lowest paid guy there... at least for this season.

Edit: Actually, I forgot about Caruso. That makes things even more interesting. That's 4 legit players the Bulls will have. Two of them are pretty good defenders.

[Note: And as noted by others... the +/- stuff will be a hoot with DeRozan and LaVine. FNG's head might explode regardless of the outcome.]

Yeah, it's close to exploding. I've always had a peculiar fondness for outscoring my opponent...must go back to my childhood in some way. I'm not convinced the Chicago Bulls or Gersson Rosas share this fondness.

It will be interesting to see what the buyout number is and what the Knicks are gonna pay him. Honestly I think that's a good spot for him. Idk if the Knicks are ever going to be contenders but they have a legit squad that should be fun to watch for the next couple years. That could make FAs want to actually go there again.
