It seems more likely he would be dealt at the higher number but it's nice to have another option however unlikely.

Bryn Forbes will be cut or traded. If there are no other moves. I'll be a little surprised if it's not him.

Another way to look at Mike Conley is let's say the Wolves decided that either Russell was unlikely to come back and or they didn't want him back too badly. Obviously they decided to move on. So a question I would ask is Mike Conley even though he will make 24 million next year is he better than what the wolves can afford via FA in the offseason with mid level money? Now they also don't HAVE to use that mid level on a starting PG because they have Conley. Obviously they need to be looking for a future player at that position next to Edwards but if Russell wasn't it then kicking the can down the road another few months with Conley isn't the worst idea.

The answer is of course Conley's better than a MLE PG this summer. Where this team is struggling is that they've missed out on even having a young PG here to get a head start on learning from Conley (or Pat Bev had he stayed). Instead we punted on it entirely with no real way to fix it outside of TC drafting the Jokic equivalent of PG with his 2nd rounder this year.

I'd agree... for this season.

But I think we have to assume Russell wasn't resigning. So.. . the Wolves were a bit stuck.

IF Conley stays close to what he is now... 108 games of Conley vs. 26 games of Russell makes it a much better deal.
