Sticking with the hypothetical Rubio for Giannis trade, you still have options. We would have shed Mayo's 6M expiring. That leaves more than the max in cap space to fire away at a Conley, if we want to overpay. There's the draft where we could reach for Dunn. There's probably a handful of other young veteran PGs that you could trade for using that pick (Teague, Hill, Dragic, Bledsoe).

Look, any time you trade a good player at a position that you're already weak at, there's going to be some more moves that have to be made to cover up. All we did in that situation was trade our weakness at SF for a weakness at PG.

Good points. It just feels like a wing is easier to eventually "solve" than PG, which requires a fairly specific set of skills. I also think that some folks are convinced that Wiggins is our SF of the future and LaVine is our starting SG. So why give up something valuable where you have no depth to get Middleton or Giannis if you're wings are theoretically set for the future?

The counter to that is that PG is a deeper position overall in the league and it's possible to go find an average-ish starter if you have the cap space and assets.

I like LaVine's potential as much as the next guy, but if we're being honest, that's all it is right now: potential. That's not to say that I don't believe in his future, but Giannis is already producing with ridiculous versatility and is still just one year older than LaVine I believe. Also, I don't think you can really have enough good wing players. You could potentially play three different affective combos between Wiggins, Giannis and LaVine and still give them all 30+ MPG if you needed to.

If could actually swap Rubio for Giannis and you can throw out Towns-Wiggins-Giannis and Lavine thrown in there, who cares?

I still think they can give us a fair trade, it just may require a third team. They have good assets to move.
