It’s also frightening how completely you misunderstand the Borg. The Borg remove individualism. The evangelical takeover of our country by Republican trumpers are the Borg. Stamping out things that are different, like Nazis did. Get it?
Re: OT thread America
The majority of my political news comes from 2WAY, which I highly recommend. The show has it's own platform along with being on other platforms. I just watch it on youtube. Mark Halperin is the host for the "Morning Show" and "2WAY Tonight", and he includes republican and a democratic commentators/guests on both shows. They go over the latest political news of the day, and then invite viewers to join in with observations and/or questions.BeenLurkin wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 5:30 pm I could ask which news source you watch…but I know it’s Fox
It's a really great way to get perspectives from both sides. They preach "peace, love and understanding, the presumption of grace for all".

Ok….so it’s two white guys who argue with Sean spicer? I’ll give it a try but I really don’t think that sounds like a group of varied perspectives
Re: OT thread America
So one's perspective is dictated by the color of their skin?BeenLurkin wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 6:11 pm Ok….so it’s two white guys who argue with Sean spicer? I’ll give it a try but I really don’t think that sounds like a group of varied perspectives
(the other white guy is a Democrat and Halperin is the neutral host....or at least he presents himself as neutral)

Yes…perspective is based on the sum of someone’s life experience. I would like to know what people of color or women say about topics as well.
Re: OT thread America
I agree that the sum of one's life experience lends to their perspective, but I think there are influences far more profound than skin color or gender, since those are purely genetic characteristics. Here is a list of things that I think are more influential, in no particular order.BeenLurkin wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 6:58 pm Yes…perspective is based on the sum of someone’s life experience. - Parents/how they were raised
- Other Childhood experiences (excl. parents)
- Education level
- Religious affiliation or lack thereof
- Education level
- Income level
- Where one has lived throughout his or her life
I mean, would it make you feel better if Mark Halperin had Ann Coulter and Larry Elder on as his other co-hosts? That would give you a woman and person of color perspective!

Skin color and gender are how the world perceives you…and the reactions you experience from the world create your perspectives. Every straw counts if we are seeing why someone’s backs broken, but all those things you listed can be hidden when having face to face interactions with folks and a white male can never understand that. Cancelling dei legislation and overturning roe v wade are direct attacks on women and people of color. That’s a current event that is creating a lot of perspective and white males wont see any direct negative consequence from either.

I disagree. Most of the world perceives folks based on their actions, their words, and their behaviors.BeenLurkin wrote: ↑Thu Mar 06, 2025 7:20 pm Skin color and gender are how the world perceives you…and the reactions you experience from the world create your perspectives. As for DEI, there is no legislation that Congress passed for it. It is a practice that federal agencies put in place based on the direction of the President, who leads the executive branch. Now there is a new President who is going in a different direction.
Same thing goes for companies or universities that have DEI initiatives. It's done voluntarily based on the direction of the executives and boards of those entities. There is no legal framework that mandates DEI initiatives.
Fortunately we already have anti-discrimination laws on the books that outlaw discrimination on the basis of color, religion, gender, etc. That existed before DEI and it will continue to exist after DEI fades away.
As for roe vs. wade, all that did was turn the matter over to the states. And as a lot of republican state legislatures found out, people did not want things as restrictive as they thought and a lot of those measures failed.
And finally, when you say that the canceling of DEI programs and overturning Roe vs. Wade is a direct attack on women and people of color, what authority do you have to speak on behalf of all women and people of color? You treat these groups as homogenous drones that all think the same way you do, when in fact millions of them disagree with you. So what do you say to them?
