Meh. Minnesota got the losing side here (shocker). Los Angeles just got much more dangerous because of this trade too. Double whammy.
I'd agree... for this season.
But I think we have to assume Russell wasn't resigning. So.. . the Wolves were a bit stuck.
IF Conley stays close to what he is now... 108 games of Conley vs. 26 games of Russell makes it a much better deal.
36-year old Mike Conley Jr. is the savior. Sounds good to me. What could go wrong?
I know you're upset, but let's not make stuff up.
I didn't write that... nor anything close to it.
You didn't write that, but that does seem to be the popular sentiment. We're also doubling down on a bad Rudy Gobert trade, which is... well, it's something.
Let's collectively hope Mike Conley Jr. gets on the TB12 fitness program and essentially turns back the clock instead of further declining and potentially breaking down. Again, I don't think many people here have actually watched much of the elder statesman this season and are instead falling back on knowledge of who said player once was. This isn't five years ago.
Conley has never been much of an iron man, so him missing games despite playing less than 30 mpg is a very real probability.
But back to Wolves options... if Russell wasn't going to resign... how would you have liked the Wolves to handle the situation?

Always an interesting dynamic with Dlo. I had always thought he looked at himself as the alpha. A few weeks back after he and Ant both had big games he proved me right, he said "I am an Alpha too" in the presser. The reality was always that Dlo was never the alpha, he was the 3rd or 4th best player on this team getting paid the max. I never got the sense he agreed with that. Moving forward the reality is what do you want from your 3rd or 4th best player when they are the PG? Conley is in no way the answer long term but 7.8 assists is a good thing with our lineup. I trust Conley's ability to make others better even though he is not the talent Dlo is in isolation. The downside is obviously his age. But we have next year at a 6 mil discount and what will be a very movable expiring contract.

Durant to the Suns for Bridges, Johnson, crowder and 4 1st. Holy shit

You want sad Trade tree
The Kevin Love trade tree lives on I'll do a simple version of it
Love traded for Wiggins
Wiggins and first rounder (Kuminga) for DLO
DLO traded for Conely and 3 seconds
A trade we mead 9 years ago is still effecting the team today.
Jazz also gave up at least 2nd round picks to get a 1st along with those players.
Re: Here comes the chatter!
Debating D'Lo vs Conley in a vacuum I get, but to me the biggest thing is the salary slot that this trade allows the team to keep for another season. There's a reason big spending teams always try to hold onto those slots. Letting D'Lo walk this summer would have been a disaster. Now they have an expiring trade chip a year from now and worst case end up where they would have been this summer, if they keep Conley and he walks summer 2024.

Kind of impressive. I'm a pretty chill dude and I even got a couple techs in college intramurals.
Ok fine they were all because of an incorrect Jersey issue. Ugh...lol and no Chris Paul wasn't in attendance...that I know of.

Without knowing all the details involved with D'Angelo Russell's extension demands and what potential suitors were offering, it's difficult to know exactly what I would have done, however, I explained for months that it was highly unlikely the Timberwolves were going to upgrade from Russell at his position. I still feel that way. Mike Conley Jr. is not a better player nor a better fit for this roster, in my opinion, based on everything we have to account for.
With that in mind, I would have been looking to make additions on the wing (2-4). There was at least a chance that you could have improved there enough to boost the team to some degree -- given them an advantage where they didn't previously have one and also acquire talent that had longer-lasting value. Norman Powell, Terance Mann, Luke Kennard, Marcus Morris, etc. -- some combination of that group would have been preferable from the Clippers, for example, over what the Timberwolves ended up with. In short, I would have looked to bolster a different position group entirely while also not taking back the NBA equivalent of a senior citizen.
I guess I should just be thankful Minnesota didn't acquire Kyle Lowry, but yeah, I don't feel like the team got better today. I do know they got much older, though. And now there's even less excuses for Rudy Gobert and Chris Finch. Hooray for that?

Yikes. Well Suns are contenders. Maybe CP3 can stay healthy.
