Maybe Sid has the scoop on this one, I really don't know. I do know this. I will not be pleased if such an important decision is made before all potential candidates are considered and sufficient due diligence has been performed, and one week is clearly not enough time for that.

I don't believe for a second that KF has only been on the job since Mitchell was let go. I'm guessing they've been doing the behind the scenes research for a month at the least and they're simply bringing in those who they consider to be the best for the job(s).

Browsing a couple other message boards I've come across a few posters saying rumor is that Thibs will be announced pobo and head coach on Friday the 22nd.

He may be 96 years old, but there still many in the community that put some faith in what he says...I'm no longer one of them.

LST, good to have you back on here with your well thought out analysis. But why would this team as it is now, want to gamble on a young coach? We just need someone experienced who is more of a sure thing than Kevin Ollie. Maybe The Korn Ferry has been working the last few weeks (like SP suggested) and found nobody as good as Thibs or JVG or possibly Glen wasn't interested in a young guy.

I think they are influencing Glen's decision. We've heard in the past that Glen wasn't in favor of one guy with dual roles. Well, KF is supposedly a proponent of the dual role position. Stein said today that the Wolves offered Thibs both positions, not Thibs demanding both positions. That's potential evidence of their influence right there.

And it's not necessarily a bad thing that they're making a quick and aggressive decision. It could mean that they listed Thibs and JVG as their two top candidates right off the bat and decided to target them first before moving on. If those are your two best, and you can get who you want, there is no need to further the search. That'd be like specifically looking for a center in last year's draft, there are two obvious choices in Towns and Okafor, you can actually get either of them, why would you continue to think about what Myles Turner could do for you? You have your guy. Go and get him. It's confident, it's quick, it leaves little room for overthinking. This quick hire would also give them more time to work with the FO and the new executive they're bringing in to get a plan in place for free agency and the draft.

I get some of the advantages of the early decision, but not if it ends up being the wrong decision. I look at the Towns/Okafor decision in a different way. Okafor was the obvious choice and consensus #1 pick much of the year, although a few of us here preferred Towns, and Flip was clearly leaning toward drafting JO after we won the lottery...many of us were worried on this board. But Flip had several weeks before he had to make his decision, and over time he gradually gravitated to the correct choice. I think the Wolves are holding the cards here by being the most attractive opportunity out there, so we have the luxury of time. I would prefer that KF use that time like they always do in their searches, and take the time to do some proper due diligence. There should be interviews with 15-20 people who have worked closely with every candidate and can shed some light on their character. KF has a lot at stake in a high visibility search like this one, and if they are really trying to build a franchise in sports executive searches, they can't afford to look sloppy. I would be very surprised if they told Glen they would get this done in such a short period of time...too much risk to their reputation. If so, the entire search thing has just been a charade.

All accounts I've read said Flip was sold after their first workout/interview with KAT, it was never in question after that. If that was the case then there is a parallel there, just not the one you're making.

I have a hard time believing KF has a strong opinion on whether a dual role situation is preferred. And a harder time believing Glen would give a damn if they did. Their job is finding qualified candidates based on Glen's criteria.

Thanks Jerry. I decided it was all right for me to offer my opinions here, as long as that's all they are...opinions. I'll share opinions, but I can't share anything that I know for sure.

I don't know for sure, but I do believe Glen made his decision about Sam last Tuesday...I don't think KF was engaged until then. If they were hired earlier, it's one of the best kept secrets in a league that doesn't keep secrets very well. But as I said, I don't know for sure, so SP could be right.

Only in the NBA is someone who just got fired a year ago considered a "sure thing" :) ! I've just never been a fan of the "safe" recycling of NBA coaches, so that's why I much prefer identifying a young guy who can grow with the team. I don't know about JVG, but I don't see Thibs as a Glen type of guy...I worry there would be problems. Ollie looked like a future NBA coach when he was still a player...he always seemed to have excellent leadership qualities. and you can't argue with his coaching success in the college ranks. And unlike other college coaches who have failed in the NBA, Ollie played 12 years in the NBA...his last season being 6 years ago...so he knows the NBA game. I think he's going to be a great coach in the NBA, and we'd be lucky if we get to see him work for a long time with our young guys.

But if it is Thibs, let's hope he is a better driver than Brooks (too soon?)

Not sure, but if he is fired (all signs point to that) and there isn't a HC gig available for him, I'd love to have him.

How much time does Glen and KF need to take? Idk if they like one of these candidates let's get it rolling. If like a young up and comer but a legit coach sounds pretty good too especially since it sounds like they are going to bring in some sort of legit front office type to work with them. Right now the Wolves have Milt Newyon who I think we all like but we don't know if he can be the guy to lead the entire franchise along with a head coach. It seems the Wolves need a proven guy in some aspect of the organization to lead this franchise not just pin the hopes on some nifty youngster.
