There’s still time!!!
LOL. Yep. As of this moment, Tim Connelly has just under 14 hours to get a deal done. Chances of a deal? Maybe 5%.

Looks like a good trade for both teams, but probably more consequential for the Lakers after acquiring Doncic. I now see the Lakers as a contender for the Western Conference finals this season if Doncic is healthy.

This deal causes me to reflect again on the Doncic deal. The Hornets just got Knecht, an unprotected 1st and a pick swap for MARK WILLIAMS. Dallas got the aging often injured AD and one first round pick for one of the five best players in the League who is only 25 years old. I find myself increasingly outraged over the Doncic deal and I’m not even a Mavs fan. What a demoralizing move for those fans.

If we ever started a thread to rank the dumbest head basketball executives in NBA history, Nico Harrison has already put himself in contention for the top spot on that list.
Max Christie is currently the most distrepected player on this board. It's like he doesn't even exist! Lol

I’m not disappointed.
Just pisses me off that the Western Conference team ALWAYS gets the best player in these deals. Who the hell did Chicago get for LaVine in that 3-team deal? Not Fox! No, he had to go to San Antonio, LaVine to Sacramento, and Chicago just got a bunch of throw-ins.
I want to play in the best conference, so I don't mind at all. What about all the Rubes who think Wolves are heading east with expansion? If you are a fan of being in a pussier conference, do cartwheels.

He has good company with Tim Kahnelly and the Suns dude who gave up a slew of picks, plus Bridges and Cam Johnson who were or can be traded for a slew of more picks in the Durant & Beal trades.

Regarding Lonzo Balls extension (2 years, $10, $10 team option), I believe the rule is that a player is trade ineligible for six months if the extension is for more than 5% of his previous contract, and this was for significantly less. FWIW, Spotrac has him trade ineligible, but I think that’s incorrect.

Personally I think this makes a Randle for Ball + Jalen Smith trade more attractive. Ball has a very safe and team-friendly deal, since the second year is a team option. I think we’d take a step back this season by trading away Randle’s size, but to use him to pick up a better deal (as we did with KAT and DDV), isn’t the worst move for the future. It also clears $12 mil in space for next year to pay Naz and NAW and get under the second apron.

However, it is still a bet against Dillingham, or Ant becoming a better playmaker over the next two years, so I’m not sure that’s what Connelly wants to do. Still, if Ball got minutes now, he’s would be a decent trade asset when either Dilly or Ant are ready.

And Christie hits all 4 of his 3's and adds 9 rebounds off the bench in his first game for the Mavs! Dallas gets Christie, who was a consensus 5-star recruit coming out of high school, a first round pick, and a cinch future HOFer who's averaging 26/10 while challenging Wemby for DPOY, in exchange for a remarkably talented player who is currently injured and has conditioning issues. I'm going to leave my pitchfork in the shed until I see how this deal plays out.

I've got my pitchfork, torch, and grenade launcher! I'm even packing a squirt gun!

As we've talked about a bunch here, it's not as much the motive that is being questioned, it's the return and lack of a competitive bidding process for Luka. No one will ever convince me (or their actual fans) that this was the best deal the Mavs could get for him.

Then the Lakers declare rather publicly that they needed a big to help backfill AD - and voila! - Charlotte suddenly makes Mark Williams available in exchange for inferior players and a draft pick next century!

I'm back on the conspiracy train!

But I don't think Ball is really capable of playing big minutes, so isn't he kind of the perfect bridge solution at PG? He's been coming off the bench for Chicago, so it's not like his expectation is to start and play big minutes. He could almost be a token starter until Dillingham is ready.

I love Dillingham's potential, but I'm not sure he's ready yet to play 30+ MPG as our starting PG. And even if he is, we are still thin at PG with an aging Mike Conley being the only other pure PG on the roster.

Lakers have now fired all of their bullets other than Austin Reaves. They will give Williams a fat deal in a year because they will have no choice and he hasn't shown the defensive ability requisite for a Luka team. I wouldn't superglue the OBrien trophy down in LA yet.
