I still favor using whatever capital DLO brings us to go out and get Simmons, but I'm still sky high on putting Collins next to KAT and wouldn't mind a sign-and-trade Collins for DLO deal. I think it's clear Collins thinks of himself as a max player, and Atlanta isn't going to pay him. It will be interesting to see if Rosas tries to insert himself into the Collins sweepstakes after the playoffs are over.
Yet again... why would Atlanta want Russell?
Exactly. They wouldn't. Russell for Simmons makes basketball sense for both sides. (Not sure Philly does it). Collins for Russell in my opinion makes no sense for the Hawks and little sense for the Wolves
I think Collins works on the Wolves.
But I see no reason why Atlanta would want Russell. That's not necessarily a knock on Russell... only that Atlanta is doing just fine without him. And I don't see how he's significantly better (or a better fit) than Bogdonavic who's signed for significantly less money.
If they want to do a sign-and-trade for Collins... why not find a better fit or even better player?
Kek and Abe, how do you think the Collins thing will play out for the Hawks? Do you think they'll sign him to the max contract he wants with Trae's max contract looming? Do you think they'll just let him go with no return? Or do you think they will try to do a sign and trade, and if so, who do you think would pony up for Collins and give up a player better than DLO. We can discuss whether Collins would be a good fit next to KAT...I think he would be terrific. But we also have to consider the predicament the Hawks are in, and they are not going to get the player they want...teams being held up almost never do.

1) Atlanta pays Collins.
2) Atlanta does a sign-and-trade with Collins at some point... they can get help that fits better than Russell on a Trae Young-dominated team.
3) Atlanta lets Collins walk.
Atlanta is in no way "stuck" with taking on an overpriced player that doesn't even fit on their roster.

I think he was available at the trade deadline now I don't think we could get him. They have won a game in the ECF while beating the #1 seed. They have a really nice young core and they will get Hunter and Reddish (reddish has been a good defender in his young career) back next year. They are legit championship contenders and they'll pay Collins and run it back if in 2 years they aren't consistent they will trade Collins.
*i think Collins fits great next to Kat but I don't think he is an upgrade over Dlo. Think both will be on the max and both will be good players who are slightly over paid. Then Dlo and Tre make no basketball sense to me
To me things have changed since Collins was made available. The team started to turn around and there were some reports he wasn't as available as he had been previously even before the trade deadline passed. What if the Hawks make the Finals? What if they decide Collins is part of a group that's a legit contender in the east? They might decide to overpay him themselves and like Abe said maybe they deal him later...the Wolves might still be interested. Lol It's also possible some team makes them an offer for Collins they can't refuse. I like Collins but if we have to pay him the Max and offer up a fantastic trade package to get him I'm gonna pass on all that.

I agree. One swap makes basketball sense for both teams while the other makes little or no basketball sense for one team, namely the Hawks.
Legit question: The Hawks were willing to pay Gallo 20 million a year this last offseason (only 5 million guaranteed in year 3) but they aren't going to be willing to pay Collins around 30 million a year this offseason? And after reaching the eastern conference finals? On top of that will Collins want to leave a team that might be really good?
All players are overpaid. What is this teams biggest weakness? PF. If people are willing to look past Simmons flaws at 40 mil becuz he might get this team into the playoffs then I would argue that Collins at whatever his price tag is makes this team more complete and gives us as good of chance to make the playoffs. If that's all we're shooting for.
Anybody else catch Mike Breen's instant-classic call in the Clippers-Suns game yesterday?
It came as the Clippers looked as if they were about to claw their way back from a big hole, getting some tough stops and hitting big shots on the offensive end. Then the camera cuts to Kawhi. Youtube has it! Check it out.

Brilliant. Pure genius.
For those of us who have stressed the importance of team culture and leadership, I feel like this is example #1 for its importance. The report now is that he's not going to Phoenix for what could be their last game of the season (and isn't he technically a free agent?). I don't think that guy will win another championship until he's on another team like the Spurs or the Raptors, both of which had a strong culture and established stars with strong leadership. He's a great player, but how could you ever get behind a guy like that? Who would ever be inspired to play hard with him as their leader?

Mmmm, seems odd that one brief clip like this would completely taint your perspective on him. I highly doubt him up on his feet cheering from whatever distance away was going to inspire a bunch of grown men to victory. He's always been incredibly low key and let his play do the talking. I can't think of a team on the planet that wouldn't want this guy on their side. Unlike most superstars these days, he'll not only take the big shots, he'll then go guard the guy from the opposing team that takes the big shots.
