There's a difference between depth and a clusterfucck. They've at least decided that Ball and Miller are the main guys, but if I'm Salaun, if I become a finished product, do I even fit on this team? Worse if they luck out and grab a Bailey or Edgecombe or God forbid Flagg.
All while they have no center to build with.

The Mavs GM proves that intelligent people can recognize when they do something stupid, stupid people do not, but still think they are the smartest on the room.
Re: Trade deadline discussion thread
Mark Williams will be a FA after next season and then someone was gonna have to pay him. Maybe that wouldn't have been an issue by then but it's something they likely considered when doing the deal. Teams also seem to valuing unprotected picks far down the line. The Jazz wanting that Lakers pick so bad isn't looking very smart after the Lakers now have added Luka and Williams.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 11:58 amYeah, I don't consider the Lakers favorites after these trades, but it's beyond frustrating to see other teams trade their players at a discount to them.Phenom wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 11:54 amLakers have now fired all of their bullets other than Austin Reaves. They will give Williams a fat deal in a year because they will have no choice and he hasn't shown the defensive ability requisite for a Luka team. I wouldn't superglue the OBrien trophy down in LA yet.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 8:53 am
I've got my pitchfork, torch, and grenade launcher! I'm even packing a squirt gun!
As we've talked about a bunch here, it's not as much the motive that is being questioned, it's the return and lack of a competitive bidding process for Luka. No one will ever convince me (or their actual fans) that this was the best deal the Mavs could get for him.
Then the Lakers declare rather publicly that they needed a big to help backfill AD - and voila! - Charlotte suddenly makes Mark Williams available in exchange for inferior players and a draft pick next century!
I'm back on the conspiracy train!
Meanwhile Dalton Knecht is a nice player to get back in a deal. He is a rookie and VERY efficient. He was drafted about the same spot as Williams and is having success sooner partly because he is an older player but still he has started off well. He seems like one of those players that would fit just about any team so it would be good to have him on your roster or as a player to move later. Is Mark Williams an all star center or is he the next Ayton a good player but has some flaws and ends up very much overpaid? Idk I haven't really seen him play for probably a year and I see his numbers are good. I'm not sure what people think Mark Williams was worth. If you think this was a heist check out what Connelly gave up for the 8th pick in the last draft.

FWIW AD is just under SIX years older than Doncic but who's counting?AbeVigodaLive wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 12:25 pmYep.Q-is-here wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 8:53 amI've got my pitchfork, torch, and grenade launcher! I'm even packing a squirt gun!FNG wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 8:07 am
And Christie hits all 4 of his 3's and adds 9 rebounds off the bench in his first game for the Mavs! Dallas gets Christie, who was a consensus 5-star recruit coming out of high school, a first round pick, and a cinch future HOFer who's averaging 26/10 while challenging Wemby for DPOY, in exchange for a remarkably talented player who is currently injured and has conditioning issues. I'm going to leave my pitchfork in the shed until I see how this deal plays out.

Max Christie could develop into an All Star player someday... and the trade would still be lopsided for LA. And... the other elephant in the room is that Davis is SEVEN years older than Doncic who is just now entering what is usually considered NBA prime years.

At least in the games Williams is healthy. He's only played in 85 of a possible 212 games so far in his career.Phenom wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 1:15 pmHe is a talented offensive player and Luka will get him buckets for sure.Coolbreeze44 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 06, 2025 12:59 pmMark Williams is a very good player.
