Made the finals 7/16 seasons
Won a title in 4/16 seasons

Cheryl has drafted a WNBA best 6 ROY. Has had huge regular season and postseason success with different eras, players and CBA rules
I think you confuse the coach with the GM. She has always maneuvered to acquire elite talent. Anyone could have coached that Maya Moore led team, and it's been a long drought since we won a championship. I should point out that for a majority of her tenure the WNBA only had 12 teams, and 8 of them made the playoffs. Your statistics though true, don't tell the whole story. I will also add that her record in elimination games is 7-11, and that includes the games from that dominant era with Moore.
More importantly though... she wore that t-shirt!!!

LOL.

Obviously, something was amiss with the Lynx down the stretch. The team, by every account, wildly overachieved after losing several key players from the previous season, including its best player. It could be the coach/GM that suddenly went from helping the team rebound through that turmoil to being the cause of the falloff at the end of the season. Or, it could be having said best player come back that changed the entire makeup of the team... including the pecking order among players. To add further disruption, that player is largely considered to be leaving the organization after the season.

In addition, the still-sorta-gimmicky league had a three-week break shortly before the playoffs. None of this stuff is normal in anyway. I think it cascaded on the Wolves down the stretch.

Personally, I think have one stable figurehead all this time is what has enabled the Lynx to be in the mix for the past 16 years. Especially in a fledgling, growing, learning-on-the-fly league. Eventually, Reeve's style will reach its expiration point. But I don't think this season, amid all the unique situations over the past couple of months, should be used as THE smoking gun.
She got what she deserved for wearing it.

The dream vs Valkyrie in the finals.

Angel Reese looking for her first championship and the Valkyrie are looking for their first championship in their second year as an organization.

The one thing this playoff has shown me is depth means so much. Probably the two deepest teams are playing for a championship. I mean the dream missed 2 starters that series and Bri Jones missed the majority of the year.

With the new CBA I’m really curious is it better to let Phee walk or do a sign and trade and just get a loaded bench. The Cap goes up this year so the Lynx are gaining about 800k in cap space. Just curious if loading your bench is better than having a big 3?

Lynx might not have a choice. I think Collier was as good as gone the moment she signed the one-year deal.

Here are my thoughts on the Lynx currently.

I said wait and see how the Liberty did in the playoffs...they also got swept so that doesn't look for for the Lynx so the entire team including Reeve deserves criticism for the way the season ended.

When the season started I think many here would have guessed that with Reeves coaching and overall savvy and some talent his team would have a reasonable chance to at least get into the playoffs. That happened and the team was absolutely crushing it for like half of the season. If you would have told me that the Lynx easily made it into the 8th seed and then were swept in the playoffs I would have been like that's a pretty good season all things considered. The reality was that getting the 8th seed isn't exactly a massive accomplishment their were 8 good teams and then a gap record wise between the rest of the league that was pretty wide.

Before Phee returned the defense was already not as good as it was. To some extent that is not a surprise. Some dropoff would be reasonable to expect. It never seemed like they really got back to being a really good defensive team night in night out. I haven't looked at the numbers so I could be wrong on that. It seems like they could have been better adding Phee and also more size in Dorka but it didn't seem that way.

Kek mentioned getting deeper and that was definitely a concern as the season went on. At one point they had players on the bench that at least played defense and made plays but they needed some offensive punch and they didn't really have it. Still there were productive players there and they were building from losing a lot of players in the off-season. Maybe Reeve should have tried playing Bibby more than Dorka? If Kosu was healthy she might have been the do shit type of player the team needed.

Ultimately we are talking about a team that's been very good over the years continually reinventing itself and being very competitive. There are various reasons why they haven't won a championship the last few years. I think many here would agree they may have gotten screwed out of one a couple years ago. The way the season ended was disappointing but I think many here saw it coming. They exceeded expectations and then disappointed. I can't think of anyone I would want at the head of the team than Reeve. One of the big things when you have someone like her with some much decision making is she pulling in excellent people around her? Does she actually take in their input? The Lynx hiring an international scout and then basically signing a bunch of international players this season (seemed like more than in the past anyways) suggests Reeve was likely leaning on that person for info. I followed the Lynx reasonably closely this season. I thought in general it seemed like Reeve was in good spirits most of the season and I know she can he less than pleased with things. I didn't get the sense this season wore on her like I have seen with some coaches. It would be interesting to hear how much front office stuff she does or doesn't leave up to others in season.
