Signing Gobert was an approach to balancing KAT's deficiencies on defense. Many smart people here postulated that KAT would be better suited as a 4. I was certainly open to trying it as nothing had really succeeded in the past. I think in truth the reality is that KAT is a great offensive 5 and and ultimately someone who needs to be hidden on the defensive end anywhere he plays. This makes it really difficult to find a true complimentary 4 or 5 next to him. If KAT were truly the player we wanted to build around we would need an unselfish 4 who was a defensive savant and could hit an open shot.
Ultimately the only way we get that player would have been lucking out in the draft because if any team actually had that player (Mobley?), there is no way they are giving them up.
