My second round targets with big games again. Max Abnas with 34 points and 6-11 on 3-pointers (how nice would it be to have that production off the bench) and Oscar Schiebwe with 17 points and 16 rebounds (could have used that rebounding last night...he's a double double machine). Would love to add both these guys with second rounders, but more nights like this might push them into the first round.

Cam's list is good, and all except two will likely be available in our slot...Mathurin and Murray are certain lottery picks and would likely require us to move up. This draft is deep, and it's clear we will have a shot at a good player in the middle of the first round.

The second round is intriguing also. Scoring/shooting off the bench and rebounding/toughness are two big needs for the Wolves, and currently there are two guys projected to be second rounders who meet the criteria:

Max Abnas: He's undersized, hasn't played against the best competition (like CJ McConnell didn't), and likely to be a liability on defense in the NBA, but I get serious Steph Curry vibes from him. He led the NCAA in scoring last season as a sophomore with 24.5 PPG, and is making 39.2% of his threes this season on 10 attempts per game. I was lucky to see him in person last month when he played the entire game and scored 38 against St. Thomas...he was electric. Pure scorers like him aren't available in the second round very often.

Oscar Tsiebwe: Anyone who has watched Kentucky this season has to be impressed with this guy. He wasn't even appearing in mock drafts earlier in the year, and nbadraft.net currently has him going to us at 42...that would be terrific. If he keeps doing what he has been doing recently, I expect him to move up into the first round, but right now he is projected as a second rounder. I see him as a bigger, more polished version of Vando. He's 260 pounds with a 7'4" wingspan, and absolutely relentless on the boards. But unlike Vando, you can't sag off of him because he has developed a very nice mid-range game. He's averaging 16.4/15.3 this season...that's right, 15.3 rebounds a game! And his production seems to be better against tough competition...17/20 with 2 blocks against Duke for instance.

I watched Tsiebwe play against Arkansas yesterday. He ended up with 30 points, 18 rebounds, and 3 blocks. He also had 0 turnovers, which is impressive given how many touches he got.

A few observations, to be taken with a grain of salt since this was just ONE game I watched:

- He is definitely strong as an ox with a very strong base. So unlike Naz or KAT or Dieng for that matter you don't see him toppling over constantly.

- I didn't notice him grabbing many rebounds way out of his range (like Vando does), but instead he just has terrific instincts and hands. The ball just sort of sticks to him.

- At least in this game, he was VERY old school. Post ups, drop steps, jump hooks - everything came in the paint.

- He played drop coverage and seemed reasonably adept at tracking ball handlers and blocking a few layup attempts. That being said, he was also beat a couple times off the bounce.

- He doesn't appear very tall. And yes, he seems to have a nice wingspan, but I just don't know if his size and wingspan will translate that well. I get that the rebounding will likely translate regardless, but we also need someone that can wall up and make it really hard for people to go over the top of. One of the things that has helped Jokic become a better defender these last couple of years is that he's just so damn huge and has figured out how to use his size. Simply being huge and holding your position without fouling makes a big difference in preventing paint points.

Intriguing prospect for sure....debatable whether his strengths would be enough to knock Naz Reid out of the rotation.

Well now that the season is over let's continue the great Wolves tradition of picking draft favorites.

These players have a similar superstar zodiac. Here's my 5 potent players out of my 20 people in 2022 mock draft:

Bryce McGowens and Julian Strawther are born day dragon example they will out work opponent to find a way to win like tom brady, Step curry, Klay T, Dray Green (warriors dynasty), Billup, John collins, Bradley beal, Gersson Rosas (2021 year of ox and dragon opposite bad luck got fired), Patrick Beverley,etc...

Ousmane Dieng has three great combinations like Jimmy Butler, Damian, Fred VanVleet , kyle lowry

Patrick Baldwin and Justin Powell have pair secret zodiac like Nikola jokic, Giannis, CJ mccollum, Embid, Kawhi, Kyrie, Derozan, Durant, Luka, lamelo, etc

This is legitimately nuts. It's also probably a more effective way of evaluating prospects than most Timberwolves GMs in my lifetime.

It's May which I can hardly believe and the draft is now less than 2 months away. The Wolves have 3 worthwhile picks to utilize in some fashion in adding some talent to the roster.

I've seen some posts about the Wolves should prioritize certain positions. I don't disagree with that but ultimately I think they should still be looking at best available player. Why?

C? YES
PF? Yup
SF? Sure because to me the Wolves could use another player that has SF size and that guy MIGHT also be able to slide down to play SOME minutes at PF.
SG? Ok the Wolves have plenty of SG but if the best player available is a big time 3 point shooter and is a SG I would not be upset if they took that type of guy. We have passed up a lot of good shooting over the years.
PG? Yep

To me pretty much anything is on the table plus the Wolves do have #40 for their first pick in the 2nd round where they could pick a guy to help at a spot they didn't address earlier in the draft. They could also possibly move around the draft a bit too. I haven't dug into the prospects yet to see the guys I would really want and other than the top few picks we probably need to wait a bit to get a better sense of where some guys are projected to go. The Wolves did a nice job in a couple recent drafts and even Wright looks like he may have been a good addition as a rookie 2-way signing last year. If they could come up with at least another guy that develops into a legit rotation player from this draft that would be fantastic. I would expect if they don't move any picks they will probably pick an international guy with a 2nd round pick to stash for at least a season.

I tend to agree with you Monster. Go find the best player available and someone that could eventually push one of our existing rotation players for playing time or potentially be a longer term upgrade.

I mean, look at how 28th pick Jordan Poole and 30th pick Desmond Bane are absolutely key cogs for their teams. I could argue than Bane was the MVP of the Memphis-Minnesota series.

Montero, Chandler or Koloko at 19

Trevion Williams or Jaka LaRavia with one of the 2nd rounders.

Drew Timme perhaps with another 2.

Stash one more like Yannick Nzosa.

I'm very intrigued with Jovic. I've seen some mocks where he goes before 19 and some later. I'm still doing my draft due diligence on him and others likely to be available at 19, but so far I like him and Tari Eason. A tall wing with passing skills, high IQ guy and offensive minded. I wish I knew his wingspan as I have read contrary write-ups about his wingspan. Here is the writeup at draftjunkies: https://www.nbadraftjunkies.com/nikola-jovic
