Then the shine came off a bit as he was thrust into a more prominent role, as his poor hands and over-exuberance at times led to fumbled passes, poorly given fouls, and foolish turnovers. Then as the team got healthier and Edwards became more of a focal point, he seemed to settle back into a more limited, but effective, role.

Bottom line....We need to re-sign him in the absence of any big move to get a big-time PF. I don't think he's the ideal starting big next to KAT, but he isn't bad and he IS an ideal bench big that provides instant energy and "do shit" stats in the event someone else emerges as a better starting option.

He defends. He rebounds. He plays hard. He was a positive player last season in nearly ever advanced stat category (win shares, VORP, PER). KAT's best player pairing was with Vanderbilt in terms of net rating. The KAT-Edwards-Vanderbilt was one of our best 3-man lineups. He fits well with our "stars". Bring him back!

How much would you be willing to pay?

Supposedly the Wolves offered about 3 million a year Vanderbilt wanted 6. Honestly I can't decide if I would be willing to pay him more than 4 million a year. I'm both being skeptical and wondering if I'm being a homer about him at the same time.

Good question. I'd be willing to end up somewhere between $4-$5M if that's what it took. But if someone gives him a Tyus Jones-like offer (another player I liked as an effective backup), that is too rich.

5 should be the max for Vando based on production. If another team goes 6 or higher they should let him go.

That's about right, Doper. If some team offers him $6M, then maybe we can sign Hartenstein for $5M.

Hartenstein is my under the radar big guy guy but honestly I'm not sure I would go that high for him. For one thing I just haven't seen him play enough.

Energetic, raw and athletic bigs without much range can be had for a lot less than $6M.

Vanderbilt is fine. For what he is. But that's just not what cap-strapped bad teams should be spending their money on.

Oh, the stories he and Malik could share...
