Abe - Do they? That is what we have done and the track record doesn't show it works. The NBA is about a few really good talents and a supporting cast. We pay the supporting cast like really good players hoping they will become that. Good teams let those players walk.

I would rather see us go for one of these younger players that shows potential and overpay them for a year instead of 3+ years. Basically more prove it deals. And when I say overpay I mean up to 50% more for a season over what other teams might pay per year. Does anyone know if there is any statistical evidence showing how NBA players outperform career averages during the final year of their contracts??

Nice job on triumvirate. And you're right, that trio gobbling up our salary cap leaves us way short of contending status. Unless again, we get lucky in another lottery.

It hasn't worked. But when have the Wolves gone this route other than Russell... which would suggest that Rosas is keenly interested in this strategy.

The Wolves have overpaid their own prospects (see Wiggins). Was that because they truly thought he was special... or thought they were backed into a corner a bit?

Considering what they gave Wiggins for what he showed... Collins is a bargain. The rub, as noted, is that there's so little wiggle room because they're already overpaying Russell. There's only so many times they can try this.

I've always voiced my leeriness of contract-year wonders. Ironically, that's not Collins this year. After posting some crazy efficient stats last season (and getting hit with a suspension)... his numbers have taken a slight hit. Is that its own red flag... or is it because of the emergence of Trae Young overpowering all that happens in Atlanta?

IF the Wolves chase/land Collins, I hope the Wolves brass know the answer to that $110M question.

Abe - I agree. The statement was less about Collins and more about the general way this franchise has continually done things. I would think the best way for Rosa to build this team around DLO and Towns would be to basically have only those guys and Ant under contract after this year and use the cap for players.

What is the ceiling and floor of this team with DLO, ANT, TOWNS, and COLLINS?

I think it's best if I wait to see Russell in action (with Towns) before I go full scorched earth.

The grand Rosas plan/pairing might work, even if I have my Russell doubts. We simply need to see it in action.

There's probably seven Wolves players whose value exceeds their cap number. Forgive me for not understanding it, what exactly is your point?

A report surfaced today that it's unlikely Collins is traded... referencing how difficult it is to match salaries in any trade right now.

Looks like he's going to RFA.
