I wouldn't bet on that, personally. Minnesota needs a slasher/second ball-handler in the starting lineup in the form of Anthony Edwards, and a strong defender on the perimeter in the form of Jaden McDaniels.

Malik Beasley is a scorer. The Wolves will need him to be a focal point offensively when Karl-Anthony Towns, D'Angelo Russell, and Edwards are off the floor. And neither Beasley nor Edwards can replace the length and defensive acumen that McDaniels has already shown to this point.

I would be incredibly surprised if the Wolves didn't start the combination of Russell, Edwards, and McDaniels.

I haven't checked the math, but the trade for Beverley would have had no implication on the Wolves ability to sign free agents next summer. They took back more money (approximately one million) in this trade, but all players involved could have come off the books next year.

True and I could be totally wrong here but didn't the Wolves have to make a decision like a couple weeks into the season to see if they want to use the team option on Culver (I could be totally wrong on that)

Well that's an exciting move I wasn't expecting. It also sounds like he is really happy with the trade per Wolfson.

"FWIW, told that new #Timberwolves guard Pat Beverley is "very happy" with today's trade. Bev's story, by the way, is amazing. Was on three European clubs in three different countries and released by the Heat before making it."

The Wolves exercised his option for the 2021-2022 season in late December last year so I would assume the deadline to exercise his option for the 2022-2023 season is somewhere around that same timeline. In any event, I would have expected Minnesota not to pick up that option if he was still here. Memphis will have even less time to evaluate Culver than Minnesota had so I'd expect them to make that same decision.

Very nice news today. Q mentioned that Beverly can help set the tone, and that is what he is, a tonesetter. Our roster is talented but filled with laid back players. Beverly is a dog, and we desperately needed a dog. He isn't going to put up with anything less than a singular focus on winning. Just a great move by rosas that will move the needle. We also don't have to hear anymore excuses for Culver, I love it. There wasn't any minutes for him anyway.

A trade, and I said to lipoli at the beginning of free agency that I'd be disappointed if McLaughlin was brought back. Well, I wouldn't mind Wright on a Gupta special NBA deal (like Reid and Nowell) and have a two-way spot open up to add another big along with Knight.

C Towns/Reid /Knight
PF McDaniels /Prince
SF Edwards /Okogie /Layman
SG Beasley /Nowell /Bolmaro
PG Russell /Beverley /Wright

still waiting on Vanderbilt, and two vet minimums. If that means revisiting RHJ on a minimum, cool. If that means Ersan Ilyasova on a minimum, cool. Harry Giles, Bismack Biyombo if Vanderbilt doesn't come back. This opens up options for guys who just want a roster spot

If you thought Ricky Rubio was making a good impact on Anthony Edwards...

I'd expect Patrick Beverley to get in his ass in a way Rubio never could. Rubio can share his knowledge, but he's cute about it. As others are well aware, Beverley has that dog mindset.

Beverley never had the physical tools or ability that Edwards has right now and he's a three-time All-Defense player. There will be absolutely no excuse for Edwards to lack effort on the defensive end on a nightly basis. Beverley will get in his face about it, right or wrong.

Also, Edwards is from Georgia. If you guys aren't from the south, then you might not know, but athletes down here typically respond to that gritty, aggressive type of coaching and leadership. When that's not there and athletes aren't being demanded for their very best, that's when there's an issue. I think Beverley is going to be awesome to have around Edwards.

Beverley has had a better career than DLO. He's a better three point shooter, he has a better Assist/Turnover rate and Beverley is a top defender and DLO is the opposite. Not surprisingly, Beverley's net rating have been very good and DLO's have been pretty bad. Unless he's washed, I would like to see Beverley get an opportunity to start. DLO's more suited for a sixth man role anyways.

You're assuming the Wolves continue to play small ball then? I can't see that being the case based on the words Chris Finch and Gersson Rosas have said this summer. They've wanted to get bigger and they see Jaden McDaniels as more of a three, thankfully so.

PG: D'Angelo Russell / Patrick Beverley
SG: Anthony Edwards / Malik Beasley
SF: Jaden McDaniels / Taurean Prince
PF: TBD / TBD
C: Karl-Anthony Towns / Naz Reid

That rotation is going to give Minnesota the best chance to win on a nightly basis. Josh Okogie needs to be played situationally. Jaylen Nowell needs to be played in the event of an injury. The Wolves will either sign Jarred Vanderbilt to be their starting four, or they will nab an aged veteran that can hold the position down for a year or two.
