It seems more and more like Ryan was pushed on him and Finch was his guy all along. If that's true, then picking Vanderpool simply because he's been on the bench is a poor reason. It's Rosas' job on the line to make the right pick. I remember when Thib was picked to be head coach. There were concerns with him overplaying the young guys but most were excited because he was a legitimate big name head coach, probably the biggest the Wolves have had (perhaps above Flip). Ultimately though he brought some good things, our defense wasn't what it was supposed to be with him, and ended up still not being the right fit.

Even if Vanderpool is a great head coach, if he's not 100% on the same page as our GM while Finch is, he (Finch) may still be the better choice for the Wolves.

In the end, we'll find out in in the next 2-3 years not if Vanderpool would have been the right guy, but whether Finch was.

Fair point, Hockey. Now that I've had a few minutes to reflect and cool down, I agree with your assessment. This had to be Gersson's call and there's no objective basis for me to conclude that Vanterpool was a better head coaching candidate than Finch. As it turns out, I was wrong about Finch not being considered for other head coaching positions. Apparently, the Pacers considered him as possibly another team or two.

The good news is, no matter which coach he picks we're probably screwed :)

The best news is we've taken a vital step in the replacement of Rosas. Seriously, that's the best thing about this. Rosas is such a dolt.

I was about to say this. Like it or hate it this is his vision. Now he's on the hook from here. So it's a win win scenario. Either his vision works or more likely the idiot will get ran out of town.

Seeing the players laughing and smiling near the end of a close game and losing is probably the last straw. No one cared about winning. This will at least put the team on notice and motivate everyone to give their best and hope to land in the new coach's rotation.

Finch has been on the cusp for years now just like Vanterpool. I was a little surprised that he wasn't hired the first time around. He has an impressive coaching tree and experience with Jokic and AD. I'm on board.

Side note: karma will guarantee the Wolves lose their pick given how they handled this. Good.

cool, you called Rosas a dolt, and I know that's the general consensus on here, but I think he's a mixed bag.

The trade for Russell looks like a huge albatross now, though at the time most people were thinking Rosas worked magic by turning the worst contract in the NBA into a recent, young, all-star who is also good friends with our superstar. Now that looks pretty bad, but of course we have the benefit of hindsight now. Keep in mind, the reason we have Beasley is also because of this trade, and Beasley looks like value @ $15 mil a year this year and should get better.

The book is still out on Ant (I really still am just as unsure about how his career will end up now as I was on draft day). McDaniels is looking to me like a big-time diamond in the rough with some major upside, and we got a Euro-stash in there which is a wildcard.

The 2019 NBA Draft with Culver isn't looking great, but one could say it's not looking great for most of the players in that draft at this point.

Free agency I think most of us would agree that there have been a few poor signings, including Juancho. What we do know is that Rosas' goes all-out to land free agents of interest even if they end up going to another team. Juancho's contract will go from bad to good in a year when we can use his contract to match a salary. There's good argument to be made that we didn't have enough bigs, but as he said, we're not done reshaping the roster.

I guess I'm just not sure if I'd agree with everyone that he's completely failed and needs to go. I think he's an incomplete at this point and the team is a work in progress. (that said, I really wanted Wiseman, but he's been solid but not tearing the roof off)

Yep, I can understand the hire the more I read up on Finch and what he's been linked to in his past stops. I don't know if it'll work out and he wouldn't have been my top choice, but I'm feeling alright about Finch right now. He's likely a big upgrade over Saunders on day one.

But can he swear and yell ice very loudly so I can hear through my television screen?

Hockey, I was using foresight when I ranted about how bad the DLO trade was the day it happened. No hindsight here.

Any GM that tries to copy the mild success of his former employer has already lost. Now he's trying to play catch up, and unless he gets extremely lucky, he will fail sooner than later. Like many of our problems Glen is at the root of this. He made the decision to hire Rosas, something that should never have happened. Believe me I hate to be a downer, but until we get the right PBO nothing much is going to change.

I agree, Cam. I've been reading everything I can find about Finch tonight and he looks like a solid choice; certainly an upgrade over Ryan.
