Re: General Pre-Draft News and Musings
If the Wolves trade Covington for #4 and Garland doesn't become Lillard out the gate, Wiggins will be around longer than Rosas.
Our Lineup would force Wiggins back to SF where he gets punked all day and then Garland is STILL behind Teague and you can kiss Jones goodbye if Teague isn't gone.
Towns /Dieng
Saric /Bates-Diop
Wiggins /#43
Okogie /Reynolds
Teague /Garland

Re: General Pre-Draft News and Musings
Covington is good. I like him. And he has legit value... as a 4th option. He plays with great energy. He's a very good defender. He can shoot on the catch. But he can't create for himself or others. At all.
So I understand why a new regime would look at the situation where he's currently the #2 in Minnesota as far as quality players... and think "Oh. We're in trouble. We need more talent. We need somebody to create. Somebody with potential to be more than a #4 masquerading as our second best player."
That team isn't winning anything soon. Its ceiling is meh. So you're still left searching for a legit #2 and #3 at the end of the day.
Let's remember, the team is building around KAT with complementary pieces. Unfortunately, in today's NBA, it's not easy to win huge with a big. Zone defenses and the way smaller players are allowed to essentially tackle post players before the catch and double teams and et al... teams MUST have a creator on the perimeter.
So as much as I dig Covington, I understand the reasoning behind a move for Garland. The obvious question becomes just how good this Garland kid is. I have zero idea. I've never even seen him play. Even those who have... it's only a ridiculously small sample size.
If he was a guaranteed star... he'd go #2 in the draft. If he sucked balls, he'd probably go much later than #4.

If Garland is that guy, that's one thing, but then Teague has to go at all costs. I don't wanna hear about how Garland needs a mentor and develop him slowly. In the short term, Rosas is heaping a ton of responsibility onto someone who has demonstrated he can't handle it in Wiggins. So if it's Garland, coo, but then this team is also simultaneously saying Trust the Process while they pray to the high heavens that there's a SF worth tanking for, and early reports indicate that there aren't many in the 2020 class.

I think Teague will be gone soon enough. Immediately... or at some point during the season.
I can't imagine a player as underwhelming and polarizing as Wiggins actually gets to stick around for multiple regimes for much more than 5 or possibly 6 seasons.

Back to the defense optional days. I'd much rather give them Saric than Covington.

Agreed. But I think that's part of the problem.
Other teams have seen that Covington was much better last than Saric was...

Re: General Pre-Draft News and Musings
Don't at all like the idea of losing Covington.....but I do think this may be the deal they make. Maybe we could get the Pels to include Moore? He really doesn't fit a youth movement, and is entering last year of deal. With all the influx of youth, he has a bit part next season. On our team, he could replace most of what Cov provides as a shooter......then we need to find some guys that can actually defend.
Re: General Pre-Draft News and Musings
There is absolutely zero chance we can get the 4th pick for Covington!! Cmon guys.
Re: General Pre-Draft News and Musings
It is all what you think of Garlund. If they think Garlund has Lillard potential you go for it. I love Cov no doubt it but he is no more than a 4th option a really good team, he is also 29 coming off a knee injury what still not a guarantee that he will be ready for training camp what scares the heck out of me.
Other things you have to look at is if it Was Cov and #11 for #4 the Wolves would cut 12 million in cap space, meaning we are one Teague or Gorgui trade away from being able to go get Dlo. Also if we went up and got Garlund at 4 that means only Colby White would be a PG on the board for 2 teams in the Suns and the Bulls who are looking for a PG. Meaning Teague could become more available to that team.
Now the trade might backfire on you but Cov is not good enough of a player to not trade for a person the FO thinks can be a multi time all star. Yes it is a risk but you have to take some risks to be a successful front office. Also people say if it fails Rosas will be gone real quick. Well if Rosas doesn't get another all star calaber player next to Kat because we just sat back and drafted in the late lottery, Rosas will be gone when KAT leaves anyways. You have to take some risks and if they think Garlund is a stud, make the trade.

Possibly but if our 11th pick dosen't pan out aren't we sort of capped out at a 41 win team max. Got to gamble sometimes and if they think Garland can be a stud you have to try it. Even though I love Cov.
